Eric Clapton is overrated. Yawn.

Add to my list: Warren Haynes, Les Claypool

Underrated: Jimmy Herring

Agree about Herring - toss Derek Trucks in there too....

Most underrated: Warren Zevon

Most folks have no idea how many hit songs he wrote for other artists.

Warren Haynes is incredible........

If he's overated... It's not by his doing.. The man has serious skillz on the guitar...

I know he should change his name to "Special guest"

No doubt... His last album was amazing... Just amazing...

I may need to paraphrase here. I read somewhere that he was comtemplating getting a tattoo as he neared death. His reason for not: "it's one of those things you could regret for the rest of your life".;-)

Since I was the one to bash him, I will clarify. He has tremendous skills on the strings and works incredibly hard. I've seen Govt Mule, The Dead & Allman Bros with him. He's solid but not too innovative. On the other hand, how 'bout that Trucks. As the other ABB guitarist, you can see him fitting jazzy stuff in the band without ruining the concept of the band. He's a bit experimental on his own. Perhaps he plays less to the masses than Warren, but he's making new stuff.

Great story...one of the reasons Warren was one of my favorites.

Have to agree with Mott the Hoople, great band. Ian Hunter on his own was pretty good as well.

Agree the Kinks are underrated - I saw thm in a club in 1979 and they blew the place away. Dave Davies is one seriously loud guitar player.

And also about Supertramp - ugh.

Phil Collins... have you seen the South Park Ritalin episode??!

snipped:

Chef: All around the country, you bastard doctors are giving children Ritalin! And for every one child that actually needs it, you give it to 50,000 that don't!

Clinic Doctor: Hey now, don't tell us our business, Mr. Chef. Why, we-

Chef: You're damn right I'll tell you yo' business, because you two have got your heads up your asses! Thanks to you, we have children in our town that like Phil Collins!

Pharmacist: Eh wuh, what?? [he and the doctor are shocked]

Chef: That's right! You've made them so dull and boring that they'er actually going to go to a Phil Collins concert! Mm- my God. What have we done?? [beings to weep]

Those who saw them tell me the Tubes were underrated.

Saw the Tubes twice - once with the B-52s warming up, and once on a double bill with Todd Rundgren and Utopia. Both shows were great. The Tubes played LOUD!!! The show with Utopia featured all the crazy costumes and stage stuff like "Mondo Bondage" and the whole "White Punks on Dope" extravaganza. Fee Waybill "drunkenly" falling all over the stage in a leather thong, 3-foot wig and 2-foot platform boots. You don't see that every day.......

The Tubes were a great band, but I don't think they really rate in the pantheon of under-rated rockstars, though......I'd actually say Todd deserves it a lot more......

999 excellent band that I guess would fall into the punk rock genre. Their biggest song was Homicide, not much radio play, but quite a bit in the clubs.

P.S. 999 is also my post count. I'm trying to keep this count the same for awhile out of respect for this great band :)
