Trip Report:
We made it to the mountain by 8:30 and were on the Summit Quad by 8:50. The temperature was cold and the wind didn't help much either. We decided to bomb the first run down Upper Exhibition to Lodge. Upper Exhibition was a bit icy but lodge was much better. We went up the lift again we took Canyon over to River Run and down to the North Face. Our first run down TNF was Chute. A bit firm as it was still early but very empty and fast. Second run on TNF was Free Fall. A tiny bit Icy at spots but overall real fun. After a few more laps on TNF we headed over to Carintha to check it out for the first time this year. We bombed down and empty Long John on our way over which has great buttery snow all over. At Carinthia there were some ice spots in the Middle of Upper Nitro but plenty of good stuff could be found under the lift. Lower Nitro was closed and the four of us made note of all the fresh snow they were blowing on it when we were back on the lift.
My Brother-in-Law Colin: If THAT is not opened by 3:00 we're poaching it!!!!
After a few more runs, we made our way back to the Main Face for lunch, hitting some trees on the way. (Not sure if they were officially on the map or not, but there were plenty of tracks.)
After Lunch we went back up the Summit Quad, down Upper exhibition towards ego alley. Ego Alley was by far the best of the day. Ungroomed, whales, nice powdery spots and the rest nice soft butter. We went down the wonderful soft ego bumps on yard sale (Even I felt comfortable on them.) A few more runs down ego ally to yard sale, a few more laps on TNF then off to Carinthia to check the status of Lower Nitro....IT WAS OPEN AND TERRIFIC! The guns were still on but it was worth the ice on the goggles.
Back over to the Main Face where we did some laps on the Canyon Quad hitting snowdance, et all.
Overall it was a great day with some great friends, and I'm at work exhausted!
