Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow
Conditions: Packed Powder, Loose Manmade, Hardpack Manmade
Trip Report: The family and I spent a few hours at Mount Snow today. We waited 'till noon Sunday so as to miss the crowds from Thanksgiving weekend.
Our plan worked, our afternoon was pretty much ski-on as far as lifts were concerned. We skied a couple runs down Snowdance, a couple down Ridge, did the upper portion of Long John to access Ridge, Upper Canyon to get to Snowdance from the Summit, and while the kids were enjoying a Cup-O-Noodles in the Lodge w/ Ms. Euler, I ventured over to check out Chute.
The trail of the day was Ridge. Nice soft, dry manmade that was getting pushed around into tiny bumps and crud. Snowdance was quite similar, just a bit more crowded. Chute and Upper Canyon were pretty scraped off. I wouldn't say they were icy but I was glad I had freshly sharpened edges on these trails. Long John, as usual, had the worst snow and the most traffic on the entire mountain. What irony that the beginners are relegated to the worst conditions...it's a wonder any make it past the green circle stage when the green circle trails at a busy mountain can be so awful.
It started to snow pretty hard just as we began our last run of the day down Snowdance. Unfortunately, it's going to turn to rain tonight...but t least it should be a cold, short lived rain. At least it will fill up the snowmaking ponds.
Here's a video of the kids on Ridge enjoying the new fan gun goods:
