Date(s) Skied: Wednesday, 2/9/05 10:00-3:30
Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow Vermont
Conditions: Mostly spring like corn due to the warm weather, lots of thin cover.
Trip Report: Our trip started out with the intentions to ski at Bromley. Shortly before arriving at Bromley a little before 9:00am we hit a wall of pea soup like fog. We go to the base and you couldn't even see the lifts from the lodge through all of the fog.
Neither of us wanted to pay to ski and not be able to see where we were going so we decided to head back south in the hopes to find someplace not in the fog. We set our sights on Mount Snow. At around 10:00 we got there and found that upper part of mountain was very foggy but decided to ski it anyway.
The first couple of runs were pretty disappointing with poor visibility and wet, sloppy, thin cover snow. We made our first run off the Canyon Quad and cut over to the Grand Summit quad to make a few laps on the long green off the top to warm up. Luckily it wasn't very busy, it was hard enough dodging the few skiers/boarders lurking in the fog as it was. From there we made a few laps on Nitro at which time the fog seemed to be lifting a little. We were both getting kinda frustrated by the conditions and my legs were already burning by 12:00 due to the heavy snow. So we decided to head in for lunch at around 12:30 thinking we may not make many more runs after lunch.
While we were taking a leisurely lunch the sun actually started poking through and things started to look like they may shape up. After lunch we did a few laps on the blues off of the Canyon quad before heading over to the North Face part of mountain where the day really turned around for me. There were even less people over there and the snow seemed a little better. We spent the rest of the day over there and had a good time. I even got to try out some bumps! I'm sure I looked like an idiot but had fun none the less, and there was no one else on the trail to see me anyway.
At around 3:30 we decided to call it a day and head back to CT.
All in all it turned out to be a fun day, certainly much better than being at work. It would have been nice if we had held off until Thursday or Friday to take advantage of all the nice snow they got, but thats just the way it goes I guess...
