Trip Report:

Hard to believe its April, seriously. Its like mid-winter out there.

Thanks to an unnecessary detour (my shortcut doesn't go near town, but I was forced to go 20 miles out of my way with the rest) due to a structure fire in Wilmington I got on the hill about an hour later than I wanted to, around 12:30pm.

It was snowing when I got there and didn't stop all day. Previous tracks were always refreshed. Jumped on the Canyon Quad first and took a warmup down Canyon/Standard. Beautiful packed powder.... rode up Summit and down Exhibition top to bottom. Also, in awesome shape, save for the shrubs coming through in middle Ex (that trail requires mucho snow to cover entirely).

Next I hopped over to the North Face. First run down Freefall. Challenger lift was closed and Outpost open, so no one at all was on Freefall it seemed. It was the best run I've ever had on this trail - usually very scraped. Next was down a Olympic which was getting boney was still great. Fall Timbers next - awesome. Great steep packed powder.... Next down an ungroomed Chute. Small bumps, nothing good. A little scraped... but still not bad. Last run on North Face was Plummet.... in awesome shape as well... trail really has character with the double fall line... somewhere I did a very nice bumped up Lower Challenger in there.

Left Jaws and Ripcord and Upper Challenger alone....

As my legs started to give I hopped over to the front down Long John. Banged a left on a natural Uncle's. Good stuff.... Then took a run down South Bowl - also, the best this run has been all year. Visibility was tough, expecting to hear the usually cat track on the upper chute, I just sunk right in, awesome. Some guy screamed by me and said, "not bad for April!". Ego Alley was also in fantastic shape... Other runs included Standard, Meadow, Drop, Upper Lodge....

With all the snow it would be a shame if this was their last day.. but there really wasn't many people around so I wouldn't blame them. Buzz on the mountain is that if it doesn't rain next weekend they will be back.

Oh yeah, some lucky person found the Golden Easter Egg around the Canyon area... free season's pass for them!

Good report. Was there from 9:00-4:00 with my daughter and my friend Chris. We were pretty early so the detour didn't affect us much. We heard there was a car crash on the detour so maybe they sent you a longer way. The whole town of Wilmington was still not accessible when we were leaving at 5:00. Had to take Higley Hill Road out of there. Did not follow the detour towards Haystack! Snowed hard all day at Mt. Snow today as newpylong reported. Made for an awsome day. I can't remember Ledge, Uncles, Jaws, Olympic, etc... being open this late with no dirt showing! We even ducked into the Trials and Fantastics, plenty of coverage! If they open next w/e skiing Mt. Snow will be sweet if anyone is considering it. I'll add some pictures tomorrow.

I come from the west on Rt. 9. Vt Trans had the road block so far west out of town they wouldn't even let me get close enough to take my Chimney Hill / Haystack route there. Made me turn around and go back through Jacksonville on 100.... then I had to take that dirt road on the east side of town on 100, you know the one. All rutted, mud. Went sideways twice, lol. When I went home around 3:30 the troopers had taken over and the detour route from the west actually was the Chimney Hill route, lol. duhhhhh.

They must have been sending me that direction also, but as I said, I reversed direction and opted for Higley Hill Road to head east toward 91.
