The Fans Guns are Coming
Mount Snow is getting a $3.5 million upgrade in snowmaking technology, which means a longer season with more snow. Our intrepid snow reporter, Luke, inspects some of the newly arrived gear in this video.

Please note. The "longer season" part was bold on the home page as well. If Snow does make a run for first to open, or last to close, I get bragging right cuz [POST="169127"]I called it first[/POST].

I think it will have a lot to do with mother nature's plans for mount snow...they're pretty far south and end up getting rain when Killington and other resorts that are further north get snow. On the other hand, I've watched Mount Snow and Portland, ME get a foot of fresh while Sunday River only gets 3 inches and Sugarloaf gets zilch. Point is, sure fan guns will help, but they still can't make snow when its above freezing...gonna be up to Mother Nature.

Yup, for sure. I don't think they are going to make a run for first to open last to close. Geographic location and elevation are going to make it tough to do so. But I could be wrong! That said, last season they had one of the best early season offerings around with awesome snow on Upper Canyon, River Run and Chute with downloading on the Quad. That said, weather permitting, I think next year they will have a longer season with substantially more investment in snowmaking. If anything, their great marketing so far has definitely stirred a renewed interest in the mountain, I think that's obvious. If the product can back up the words when the time comes things can only get better.

Right. Blast the snot out of these areas and with the downloading approach, they can take advantage of some elevation in that they only need to make snow down to around 2,900 feet on the main face. They also have the advantage of the the North Face's almost due North aspect and higher load area (~2,600'). So if they get the temps needed down to say 2,500 feet, they're golden. With increased firepower (maybe some of the older hardware replaced by the pole cats could be re-distributed to this loop), I can totally see a run for first open, especially if Killington is not going for it. Mount Snow has not been that far behind Killington since they adopted the top-to-bottom approach the last few years.

I get a good vibe and think Mount Snow is gonna kill it this year. A run at an early open is the perfect opportunity to put up or shut up! I say watch closely.

I get a real good feeling about MS this season. It has nothing to do with the season pass I already purchased. ;) Thinking about some more permanent lodging in Wilmington for the season, actually.

I'd be really curious to know how many former A41 holders bought a classic Mount Snow pass. Especially after the K pricing came out, I have to imagine they are making out pretty well.

I'm one and know of a couple others. I image quite a few of the K commuters who don't own did the same. Everything Peak has done thus far is making me feel pretty good about my decision!

Another thing ASC neglected.. we need Beartrap going well into April if they can get good snowmaking weather... great run in the springtime and ASC kinda ruined that one.

Yeah it definitely had a better feel in the early/mid 90's.... a good start would be new speakers or at least fix the ones that don't work. Some of the posts are even missing them, lol.

I'm sure age plays a part here. I'd vote to get rid of all the speakers except in the terrain parks. I hate it when we're on a lift and there's new snow, gorgeous views, and music playing over crappy speakers. Different strokes for older folks I guess.

Totally agree with the better vibe at Snow than in the past.
