Resort or Ski Area: Mountain Creek

Conditions: Hard Packed groomers, soft slushy bumps

Trip Report: I wasn't going to bother with a trip report, until I shared a chair on Granite with Ski Patrol, and we started talking about how great the skiing was, particularly the bumps.

He was very excited about all the different bumped up trails on the hill. He's the head trainer for the Ski Patrol, and used to do the same thing up in Killington, and it gives Ski Patrol the opportunity to train taking the sled down in a bump field, which is required for the higher levels of certification.

He said that he's been complaining about the lack of bumps on the hill for 3 years now, and before this season started, he told the Powers That Be that if they didn't put some bumps on the hill, he would resign and go back to Killington.

I asked him if we didn't get the big storms, would they have seeded any runs. He said, "No, I don't think so, but they're not mowing them down either, which they would have done before."

I was there yesterday from 9AM to 2:15. When I got there it was snowing and there was about an inch of fresh on top of the trails, it was heavy and wet but it was fun anyway. Visibility on the upper half of the mountain was very poor you could barely see more than maybe 40 feet until you got about halfway down. It cleared up by 10:30.

I saw ski patrol getting sleds and bringing them down to Pipeline, I guess for the sled practice you mentioned. Pipeline had big natural bumps on it and was quite fun, yesterday was my first time on Pipeline ever. Later in the day the snow at the bottom was almost like glue in spots but at that point I was ready to go after about 5 hours of constant runs with just a half hour break for lunch.
