Much cheaper than last year, I'm surprised. I'll be purchasing for sure, but I hope this doesn't revive the crowded weekends of the past. Last year was really quiet with $349 season passes (all access).

Seems like MC has decided to entice folks to commit. Dropping that entry fee will get more folks to sign up. All that guaranteed $ up front. Hope it works out.

Pricing is an art I guess.

Wachusett's passes start @ $199 (again this year). Same as MC's deal...weekdays (non-holiday/vaca) and 7 nights a week front to back.

Wa must sell thousands of these. I'm sure they figure the lifts are spinning anyway...let's load em up....and once those skiers and riders get thirsty and hungry, or need gear or tune-ups...Wa is waiting with open arms (and cash registers...and why not).

So maybe MC is thinking the same way...I hope it works out for them.

I live 50 minutes from both Mountain Creek and Camelback. If I have to choose a MASH hill to use as my gym, I'd rather go with Camelback.

Even with its lift deals, MC isn't worth the effort.

its people with that mentality that made last season great. there was nobody there last season. durring the week it right on to the lift. on the weekends after 7 there is no one there.

I'd give it a shot again if they'll actually open Sojourn. Otherwise, it's not really something I can ski for a full day without getting bored, as the mountain basically becomes half the size, unless you want to take a shuttle.

that i compleatly agree with. they may do it this year. on the surveys that they where doing at the mountain it was one of the questions on it. me and my neighbor were talking the other day about there was never anybody there when we where there. he mostly ski with his kids nights on the weekends and i rode a lot durring the week. the weekend days are zoo but the night where almost always ride on conditions.

There is still NO day lodge on the Vernon side and the Sojourn trail was closed last year. Conditions on the Vernon side were horrible, parking was horrible and the cafeteria on the Vernon side closed at 9PM.
There is also only 1 lift on the Vernon side that was running last year.

All of the really good trails were taken away last year for the terrain park.

Vernon and Great Gorge used to be open until 11pm. When they go back to that I will think about getting a pass again.

Lots of things need to change there before I will buy a pass there again.

I'm not talking about crowds. Other than Pipeline, the only remotely interesting terrain (and that's a relative term) is at South/Bear. Until they get rid of the park there, what's the point in going?

I've never been....so I'm definitely talking out my arse here....but the answer to your question is...to get cheap access to be on snow....regularly.

Not sure how MC compares to my local hill (Wachusett), but I'm sure certain aspects are very similar. Crowds for one. Prolly not a lot of vert.

Not sure what your options are (proximity/price/etc).

For me, I don't really have a choice. I'm lucky Wa is as good as it is. If it were more than an hour away...I wouldn't be hooked on the sport.

So....it's certainly your decision to make. I'm not trying to sell you on MC....just spewing philosophical.

The way everyone on message boards tears MC apart is the main reason I've never ventured the 3.5 hrs to even attempt the place. I'd love to say I skied there and add it to my list of places, but I'm not travelling 3.5hrs to ski on crap conditions and wait in endless liftlines when I can do much better by saving an hours drive time each way as well as gas money just by skiing at JF/BB, Blue, or Camelback

.

I've skied both. They are quite comparable crowd-wise after school and weekend. With the changes made at MC last year, Wachusett has more to offer a skier and the lodge and parking is much better. I also think Wachusett has a much more consistent snow product. Both MC & W are dependent on blown snow, but I think W puts more into for more of the season.

I think a better choice for skiers near MC is to choose Hidden Valley. It's smaller, but seems to have more for a skier. HV also seems to want skiers to come there. MC has made the choice to appeal to boarders which will likely work well for them, but not for me.

I agree. For better or worse, I live where I live. And when I don't have the opportunity to go to the better EC areas or out west, I have no problem grinding out a couple hours in the early evening at a closeby joint, even one with +/- 800 vert.

As mentioned above, I'm 50 minutes from Mountain Creek and Camelback. Given the choice (and it isn't a great one), I'll take CB.
