One thing I remember was before doing any of the cliff jumps, rope swings, drop off slides, etc. the life gaurd would ask if your an "expert swimmer". I was a lousy swimmer but at least I could swim. Apprently people who were much worse swimmers than myself would answer "yes", seemed like I'd see at least 3 or 4 rescues every time I was there. Most frequently at the rope swing and cannonball slides. Those dropped into ponds that were fed by mountain runoff streams. The water was usually freezing, so I think it probably shocked a lot of people. Good stuff!!!!

Interesting plans

"While still preliminary, Crystal Springs’ plans include a rainforest-themed indoor water park hotel, a base village with entertainment, dining and retail, as well as a “main street” with venues such as artisan food makers, a winery, brew pub, cheese maker, ice creamery, bakery, chocolatier, and more. Also contemplated are several internationally branded resort hotels. On the mountain recreational menu are mountain luge, ziplines, and lift-accessed water slides"

And for the real extremists and keeping with a longstanding tradition- no insurance.

Never went to Action Park. Always wanted to but my parents had too many kids and not enough money. We never went anywhere.

Thus you are still alive Sev. The articles Reno posted had me almost rolling on the floor with memories of that place. But Spring_Mountain_High really captured the spirit of the place. Simpler times indeed. It was fun.

How many of today's helicopter parents would let their kids go to someplace as awesomely dangerous as Action Park? I don't remember any of the rides besides the alpine slide Tarzan swing, but do remember how sketchy and unsafe everything felt. Man, that place was cool.

Hahaha action park was awesome! I only got to go a few times in the earily 90's.
Im kind of bummed though that Intrawest is out. Yeah the Bubble-tents sucked, and trying to implement the village concept at a NJ mountain wasnt the brightest move, they did bring alot to the mountain in the 12 years. I mean in 2 years they completely replaced all but 2 of the main lifts, along with overhauling the snowmaking system over the years, and reopened the South Lodge. Atleast Intrawest had the resources to invest into it.

I started skiing as a teenager at mountain creek in the early 2000's and it was an awesome place to be. You had Danny Kass (asshole or not) come out of Creek, along with the Halfpipe tours in 04 and 05.

Now its being handed back to the same guy who basically ran VV/GG into the ground and really didnt have any regard for peoples lives.

I do not see any of those being sucessful, without a large expansion of the mountain, and a drastic improvement in snow quality. Actually, I don't see most of that ever being sucessful at MC, it's not enough mountain, and all the townhomes halfway up the mountain kind of destroy whatever natural beauty there might be. New York City isn't known for a lack of decent food either.

Put simply: MC's crowd is not high-class. Trying to move from teenage boarders to rich snobby people quickly, is more likely to just alienate the first group than to get the second group there in large enough numbers to make up for the loss.

I'd say they should try building an actual lodge first, but that's just my opinion.
