OK, all you locals that live near the mountains have the advantage of making early tracks :spread: The disadvantage is you need to give us unforutnate base camp dwellers regular updates when there is a storm around like today. When you open your drapes and throughout the day could you please (pretty please) give us some updates on what is happening. Is it NCP or snow? The radars are not good at the moment but who knows when getting above the %&$* line. Any updates for Jay, Stowe, Bretton or anywhere else for that matter would be greatly appreciated. I want to know whether to start driving up tonight :snow: Many thanks in advance....

i can't give first hand reports for the mountains, but i can say that the forecast and models looked bad enough that i didn't bother waking up early and trying to beat the rain. i am hoping for some tail end snow and good skiing for tomorrow, i will report back tomorrow on what i find sunday. my suspicions are that lower elevations on the mountains will get washed out but snow should hold well above 2500 verts or so at the mountains that had a solid base already. no evidence on that, just my guess based on base depths and what this storm looks like. if you are thinking about sunday turns, i say go for it but choose your location well.

Interesting

Thanks for that Riverc0il. I just picked up an interesting comment from Astrotech on T4T:

"I haven't gone through the complete forecasts, but I have heard that N. VT is suppose to get hit with a heap of snow this weekend. Just FYI guys.

I have asked for more info on where he gets his weather forecasts from! If it turns out that way then Jay looks a good option (I also heard Cannon may get some good over night accumulation after the switch from NCP).

Ah ah

It may be there but this radar looks interesting. I wonder what is happening at Jay!

I can advise you that presently in Jackson NH at approx 1000ft elevation it is pouring rain by the buckets full, with occassional sleet mixed in. I can see from MWO that they are getting snow at ~6000ft, but no idea where the line is. If I had to guess I'd say around 3000 now, but it will snow later according to all the forecasts.

fwiw, the current temp in troy, vt just down route 242 is 43 degrees. even with higher elevation, i doubt anything at jay except the summit area is getting snow, even that i am doutful of. mount washington auto road profile has the freezing point at 3300'. tail end is what to watch out for!

I think this thread is a good idea, nice getting reports from all points. Sticky?

Dude, if your hands are sticky from this thread I really don't need to know about it.

Seriously, I'm not really sure if the thread deserves stickyness. I think we'll leave it be for now. As long as folks keep updating it it'll stay at the top. ;)

Damn, customer service on this site has really been slipping lately! :)

It's sunny here in Central Long Island and the storm has moved north with the cold front just passing through a short while ago. It is warm at 63F.

The precip was frozen at 0730 this morning here (it was bouncing off my deck slider, which is fairly impressive--my deck is covered, has walls on both sides, and extends at least four feet beyond the slider); by 0830, it looked decidedly mixed, and it was decidedly non-crystalline an hour later. When I went up the hill to get some phone work done around 1030, it was darn near miserable out, but the snow seemed to be holding up OK--if I hadn't been already soaked and possessing cold feet by the time I got back in, I would've been tempted to grab my skis and sneak in a short run. I'm somewhat optimistic about the forecast for next week (well, more than I am about my chances of getting a good-weather day to swap the tires over on my car, which is currently in a snowbank with summer wheels and tires still on).
