I was hoping for spring bumps at MRG too. Thems the breaks. Never got up there this year at all. Lame.

Cause that's when she's at her best (with the exception of a good pow day). Normally the spring is when we hit up MRG. Huge spring bumps, awesome vibe, great people, Dark Star crankin' from the single lift house and the Allmans crankin' at the mid station, etc.

We were all set to hit up MRG from Sunday to Tues, but the mountain is closed. Real bummer as I look forward to MRG in the spring all season long.

Guess it seldom turns out the way it does in the song.

Greg et al.... We will plan a 2 or 3 day get together at MRG for next spring. Mark it down.

Downloading the single from the midstation? I can't see how else you could get to the bottom. I know about the re-opening on Saturday (potentially) but there is no real way down the lowest 4 or 500 vert.

It would seem that Mother Nature does not quite want to let winter go as yesterdays rain showers turned to snow last night. A solid 2-3" pasted the mountain and covered up all the bare spots with a white veneer. Hopefully this will help as we will try to re-open the mountain on Saturday, April 4th for the Mad River Glen Cooperative's Annual Shareholders Meeting, if snow cover permits - Stay Tuned. Thanks to all of our skiers, staff and friends for a great ski season. The cover on the upper mountain remains relatively deep while the lower reaches of the mountain are getting very, very thin. If we are able to re-open next Saturday all season passes will be honored. Stay tuned to this report for the latest news about the plans for next weekend. Hopefully skiers will get one last shot at making some turns on Gen. Stark Mountain!

Downloading the single from the midstation? I can't see how else you could get to the bottom. I know about the re-opening on Saturday (potentially) but there is no real way down the lowest 4 or 500 vert.

They can't download on the single. A couple years back before they replaced the lift, I posed a question in the AZ Challenge about whether the new lift would do downloading, because it would make early/late season so much easier. Eric basically said no. I think they'd have to run the lift a lot slower and not load very many chairs.

So the question remains, how do you open this Saturday without access to the last 4 to 500 vert skiable? I guess you could walk down the blues and greens below Broadway or Easy Way.

You could load at the midstation and ski your day from midstation on up and then walk out at the end of the day? I'm just guessing here.

Sad to see them closing already. I was really looking forward to skiing there next week. Damn.

Isn't there also some sort of issue with ski patrol, their ability to get a sled all the way down or something?

I'd love to get back up there Saturday for a free ski day (shareholder) but gotta admit the forecast toward the end of the week isn't looking promising ... although NWS-BTV now does mention this: .

no but today's the first time the word "snow" crept into the Friday night/Sat a.m. forecast at all, so it's a little more promising than before ... Wednesday sounds like the real problem though in terms of washing out base at the lower elevations.

I skied at Mad River last friday-saturday and the snow is VERY thin at the base especially on Rockefellers, and the part of L Easyway where is faces south was nearly snowless. The snow around the base of the single was dissolving before our very eyes in the sunshine and 62F heat of saturday afternoon.

Skiing this weekend will probably require walking near the base to avoid ruining skiis. The upper mountain had tons of snow, especially above the mid-station.

Sunnyside is toast.

I skied at Mad River last friday-saturday and the snow is VERY thin at the base especially on Rockefellers, and the part of L Easyway where is faces south was nearly snowless.

When I was there last Wednesday there were big bumps on skiers left of Rockefellers with one burned out patch in the middle. Don't know how much of that is left now and if so whether the bumps could be flattened there just to provide a ribbon down.

Meanwhile at the MRG weather page Roger Hill is now saying MRG could see 2-5" of snow by Sunday morning ... seems like a real long shot and still maybe too little too late but with some luck maybe we could see a positive surprise here.

In any event, if MRG can't make it this weekend I'm scheming about possibly paying my first-ever visit to Burke on Sunday, which sounds like it'll be the nicer of the weekend days anyway.

Ugh. NWS is now forecasting 0.5-1 inch rain Friday (in addition to a little bit today) and they're no longer talking about possible wraparound snow but more showers into Sat a.m. Strong southeasterly wind today and Friday too. Doesn't look like a miracle is in the offing for Saturday. Sunday still looks better for places that still have base.

I definitely got spoiled by the last two Aprils.
