I had an MRI on my shoulder because it has been giving me pain for quite some time now. In the fall I had a shot of cortizone, it seemed to help, but then I fell a month ago in my driveway. I was in agony! I didn't ski for about 10 days due to it. I also had trouble holding on to things...of course it's my right shoulder and I am VERY right handed.

I just got the results: The MRI reveals a rotator cuff partial tear and a "ganglion" which is a cyst within the tendon sheath.

Does anyone know what this means for me?

I was diagnosed with rotator cuff problems several years ago. I started taking Glucosamine daily. It's an over the counter product, and it's a naturally occuring substance in the body. I asked my doctor about it. He said it works to varying degrees with certain people. You have to take it regularly...it took a couple months before I noticed an improvement, though some people say that they see results in a few weeks.

I took it steadily for about year or more. Lately I've gotten away from it. I've been doing various exercises with weights and that has seemed to help. Surgery can correct the problem, but not always, and you may end up with less mobility. You can find the Glucosamine at places like Wal-Mart, and it's often combined with other products like Glucososamine/Chondroitin. I got mine on line through discount health and drug companies like:

As always, this is not a blanket recommendation, and you might ask your physician if he/she has any reservations about this product. Your mileage may vary.

I feel your pain- literally. I took a pretty nasty spill Saturday, and mucked up my shoulder pretty good. It's not a sprain, I know that much, but I may have just bruised the cup a bit. Putting on a jacket is rather very painful.
Anyway, as for excercises, I'd talk to your doc, get a rec from a physical therapist. Pretty much all the excercises that would help could also do more damage by putting more stress on the joint.

Yes, same opinion here. I'm a little reluctant to recommend any specific exercises. What works for me might injure you even worse, and I don't want that to happen. The opinion of a doctor and/or physical therapist would carry more weight (sorry for the pun!). :)
