Trail(s) Hiked: Crawford Connector, Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Trail

Total Distance Hiked: 6.5 miles

Special Equipment Needed: None

Report: Being a semi sort of day off and wanting to get back out into the woods for some hiking I decided that I would tackle my next 4000' NH mountain. Taking into consideration that I have only hiked twice before during this year I decided on doing something that wasn't too long as well as not being entirely too challenging (I also had the legality of having to be at work back in Sunapee at 4pm to deal with).

Settling on Mt. Pierce after reading Threecy's posts about the hike, I found myself at the Mt. Clinton Road parking lot for the Crawford Connector around 9:30 or so. This was to be my first hike in the Presidentials as well as my second 4K mountain. Following the Crawford Connector was a relatively quick and painless connection to the Crawford Path over rather easy terrain. After crossing Gibbs Brook the Crawford Path bears left and begins its moderate ascent up the side of Mt. Peirce. The path seemed to follow a relatively straight route up the mountain with only a few turns here and there. I was kind of surprised at how rocky it was in spots, but I still enjoyed in non the same. Stopping only a few times to rest for a minute or two I was able to make it to the summit in about 1hr 50mins or so.

After a quick snack on the summit (which unfortunately was shrouded in fog with a light breeze) I made my way back down in about 15 minutes less time than it took to go up. I loved the hike, but I only wished that I could have had the time to make it over to Ike or at least make a detour down to the Mizpah Spring hut.

Pictures to follow later.

Pierce is a great little hike; the views north are beautiful and the Crawford Path an easy walk. Admittedly I find it a bit long, especially on the way down at the end of a long day, but that does make for a nice, moderate grade.

Keep at those 4K's, and safe journeys!
