Spent a few hours at Mt. Snow today with the family. As others have said in trip reports this week, the amount of snow there is outrageous. At the Carinthia lodge, the deck is pretty much walk-on now. In the past I've seen this much snow, but what is remarkable is that this ALL came this week.

The amount of snow made every trail I skied a riot! Uncles was the best I ever remember skiing it. Hop was similarly great--big fluffy pillow moguls all the way down.

We spent some time in Sunbrook...there was a poor, scared moose that had wandered down through the woods to the edge of Thanks Walt near the bottom of the trail. The moose was there for long enough that the ambassadors had to set up some snow fencing to keep skiers from approaching too closely. I think the poor thing was probably sick since a healthy moose probably would have gotten the hell out of there.

The skiing in sunbrook was superb...I love the Dippers on days like today, soft moguls, no crowds...I could push my pole down nearly to the handle right through the packed powder on Big Dipper. We also hit the trees that used to be called "Dark Side of the Moon" while we were over there...just awesome...pretty tracked out, but frankly I'm not skilled enough to ski that much powder in trees until it's packed out a bit.

I couldn't believe how much more snow there is at Mount Snow than just 20-30 miles away in Putney.

Things are set up for a great March:snow::snow::snow::snow:

We were there as well yesterday and were pleasantly surprised to still find some "goods"! lol! We couldn't get up there till Saturday night and with all the hype, I thought for sure it would all be flatten by the groomers and/or tracked out completely. But, the kids managed to find "chest high" stuff in woods over in Sunbrook (between the depth of the snow and having to crouch lower to avoid the low hanging branches). I'm not usually a fan of the Sunbrook area, but the past two weekends, it has really caught my attention. Some nice runs taken over there. Husband enjoyed everything over on North Face. I had a blast in the trees between PDF and chute. A few complaints from the teenagers that the Carinthia snow was "slow", making it harder to hit the jumps. But that worked because they found other parts of the mountain to have fun. Was nice to have them out of the terrain parks for a bit!

We saw the moose as well. Heard many versions - baby that was lost (if that one is true that was one huge baby!), female that was stuck in the snow, a moose that was just plain lost. Seemed people on all parts of the mountain were talking about it.

All in all, a GREAT day of skiing at Mount Snow yesterday. Only wish we could have stayed another day. (Thou with the wind howling here in CT this morning, not sure it would have been as much fun!)

Awesome update guys! We skipped out on yesterday...a bit tired from Friday and Sunday. How were the crowds?

I'll do a TR for Saturday...unreal. I had to click a ski off in the woods and sunk up to my waist.

Crowds didn't feel bad. But we never hit the front face except to arrive and leave. Arriving exhausted Satuday night, we skipped our usual stop en route at Shaw's in Wilmington for lunch stuff. So, we decided to treat the kids to lunch at the Summit lodge (kids have been asking to "buy lunch" and eat at the Summit, killed 2 birds with one stone). Unfortunately, we found that the Summit lodge doesn't offer the same fare as the lower ones, most notably, NO chicken tenders. They were bummed. We made do with what was there (ham & cheese sandwich got rave reviews). That lodge was a constant flow of people from 11:15 to 12:30.

North Face was pretty busy before lunch with both lifts sporting lines. Rode the challenger lift with a father and teen daughter and recommended the bumps over on the front face to practice her form. Father looked at me like I was nuts and asked if I had been over to the front. He said the lift lines, even the slow one in the middle, were long. Oddly enough thou, right after lunch, North Face emptied out! Husband said it was like a ghost town compared to the morning.

Sunbrook area mid afternoon had very little in the way of lines at the lifts. About as many people were standing around watching the moose as were waiting in line. Carinthia's Nitro lift was busy, but the singles line moved right along. The 2 person lift there had very little line while we were there (thou it closed at 2:30).

If you stick with the singles lines and/or avoid the front face, a busy day at Mount Snow is very manageable.

MommaBear,
Thanks for the update! Sunday can be a really good day if you know how to work the mountain. It's good to hear that it was in good shape as well.

You're really wise to bring lunch. I can only imagine the lunch bill if you ate at the mountain every time you were there. Yikes!

Three friends and myself were there Saturday and Sunday. Never seen the mountain ski that good everywhere. 9" fresh Saturday morning! Biggest lift lines I've seen in my (10) or so years visiting Mt. Snow. It was an awsome weekend. We were still finding stashes in the woods on Sunday! More to come but maybe not until tomorrow or Wednesday. There is tons of videos and pictures around, all four of us had cameras. I really don't have a minute the next couple days to organize anything.

Great pics Reefer! I couldn't beleive the number of people yelping as they made their way down early Saturday AM. Everyone was fired up; it was pretty damn sweet.

Great photos Reefer. I was there Friday, Saturday and Sunday and I was kicking myself for forgetting my camera. I've been telling all my friends how great it was so now I can prove it by showing them your photos.

The woods were awesome weren't they? We were still finding fresh untracked Sunday afternoon!

Saturday was the best ski day I ever had!
I'm not a great skier but I could ski everything that day including Ripcord twice and steep woods that I never tried before.
