Date(s) Skied: 2/3

Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Snow

Conditions: Powder/Packed

Trip Report:

Well what can I say, I almost forgot what natural snow looked and felt like. They got about 6 inches at the bottom and probably closer to 10" up top. Got up there around 9 and did as much as I could until 3. Everything was good. Ropes were dropped on some natural runs, others were "reserved" and just as good. Trails on the front were in excellent condition such as Lodge and Exhibition... North Face was a liltle dicey but no lines and nice. Ripcord was sweetttt. I haven't been on that run in years, in my humble opinion the steepest on-piste trail in the east. I am usually not caught off0guard by much but my stomach def. dropped for a bit at the top when I dove in.

Sunbrook area opened up today as well. Went into Dark Side of the Moon to take a leak, big mistake. Needless to say the trees need more base! Beartrap was THE RUN of the day. They must have turned the guns off just last night, because it was like soft chalk with natural on top. Carinthia was good as well... Upper Titanium (reserved) was a favorite of mine that I did a handful of times...

I'd write more but I am beat. Tons of runs...

sounds awesome. I agree on ripcord, its short but it has to be one of the steepest runs in the east.

We skied there today as well and did ski in the trees:

I have to say I never saw more people ducking under ropes and skiing closed trails than I did today.

I was there today too! I was there from 12 noon to 4pm and I scored a front row parking spot at Carinthia. I wish I was there earlier today as the fresh snow got skied off in places. I toured the mountain and had fun at North Face for a little while. I did the bump run, I think it was Fallen Timbers. The other trails by the lifts got skied off revealing a scratchy surface. My edges could not grip today on the hard pack.

I discovered the best trail of the day, Bear Trap around 2:30pm and stayed there for the rest of the day. It was great, you could ski the left side with the bumps or the right side with the chalk like powder. There was NO ICE! It was the best skiing for me of the season. I only wish the trail was longer.

Beartrap!

I was at Mt. Snow Saturday as well!. I'm an intermediate skier who usually shies away from black diamond rated runs, but man, today Beartrap was right in my zone! The snow was like nothing I'd ever skiied before. Someone else described it as chalky which is right on. It had the appearance of boiler plate, but was soft enought to be carvable without any of that frightening noise the icy stuff makes. Just the very beginings of some bumps too. Perfect for my level!

You guys should have posted something in T&E! Conditions sound great. Getting psyched for the 2/16 gathering!

Bear Trap? Mt. snow is in great shape but Bear Trap was not in the top five. They were dropping ropes and kept many on "reserve". That's the good part of Mount Snow. They just don't open everything 100%. I love "reserved" trails. I'll post a short report with some pics. Trust me I've been there when Bear Trap may have been the place to be, and lapped it a dozen times or so, yesterday was not that day (was in good shape but), there was far more better gnar to be in.......................
I also just learned of T&E, will post there from now on also. Thanks.

Yesterday was my second best day of the year after Sugarbush. We started out at 8:15am so there was a bit more powder early in the day. This is my son on Illusion:

That's a great shot. I wanted to hit Illusion up but that Main Face lift lines were killing us... I saw they made snow on that trail this week...

At 8:15am there where no liftlines and we skied until 10:30am without even eating breakfast to enjoy the powder. We never rode the Grand Summit Express all day long, instead we took the senic ride up on the Summit Local three times during the day.

yeah, we rode the Local up a few times. It was stopped more times than it was running! It got to the point that we were all swearing. Ego Alley was the same way, always stopped. Have people forgotten how to get on Non-Detachable lifts?? I knew it was going to be that type of day right off the bat. We parked at Sundance and hopped right on Tumblewood...we were about to load when the lifty yells WOA and slams the stop button. The kid behind us came out too far (only looked like it held 3 people to me, heeh) and got drilled by the chair, he flew a good 5 feet, wow. He was okay but you get the point, lol. I rode up the Sundance Triple for the first time in 10 years probably. One think I like about Mt. Snow is they tend to run all the lifts on the weekends if they aren't warranted (Sundance, Ego Alley, Heavy Metal, Both North Face Triples), etc. You have lots of options...

Yesterday was my first trip back to Mount Snow since March 1994, so I spent alot of time touring the mountain with my son and familiarizing myself with the layout as this is only the third time that I have been to Mount Snow.
