However, those wishing to climb to see it this week should be prepared for full winter conditions above tree line. Crampons and ice axe are essential, and unfortunately the snow is pretty glazed over to make skiing rather un-enjoyable.
glazed over snow indicates a lot of mixing, definitely not worthy of the climb even if conditions weren't full on.

Ya but if you get some sun on your line and some temps up to 40 degrees than youll probably be all set for atleast some decent skiing. Still I wouldnt go up there without and ice axe and crampons because you never know how the weather could change

that summit cone isn't going to see 40 degrees and sunny for a long long time...

I bet they will see both atleast once in the next week, but getting them at the same time is key(and probably highly unlikely)

Tree skiing anyone?

Looks like some lines through that krumholtz... Watch getting snaged though... those things tend to bite... :)

Krumholtz, now that's a somewhat funny German name. Being German, I always think of those short twisted tree branches as looking like scrap wood.

My wife calls the twigs/sticks and branches that we start out fireplace with krumholtz.

The snowline was down to 3,800', so maybe some skiing is possible?

I always called the stuff you start a fireplace with "kindling."

It must be a German thing, we call the kindling krumholtz as a joke, being that the kindling is usually mangled and scraggly looking.

i hadn't noticed because i scroll through the new posts from the bottom ;) JimG only posted the pics i think though, i got the story ;)

Very true, I'm ussually more about the pictures though... too lazy to read the stories sometimes... ;) Good work by both of you guys, I was wondering when the first turns would be. Apparently someone had made some turns at Whiteface the day before too!

At least it started to get a little colder down here, I've been wearing my fleece to work in the morning and everything! :D

story is far more important than pics when you are considering a run up the auto road for turns :D i am undecided after reading the report, likely will wait for better weather regardless.
