Nope, no dogs allowed on the hill. What do you dog-owners do when you take the family skiing for the day? Obviously, if your close enough to be gone just a few hours, its no biggie, but we're down in CT and would like to be up in NH or VT more often. So, anyone in CT *kaff* Grassi *kaff* have any type of "Doggie Daycare" that you use? Or does anyone know of some good places in the upper states?

Time's yours....

Speaking of Cujo we own two Saint Bernards and my wife's dog is a female rescued from a shelter that was about to put her down. She is extremely aggressive with any other dogs and even though her name is Genesis, my nickname for her is Cujo and a saint growl is really something to hear, it is deep and sounds scary.

We are able to leave the dogs alone for a full day away from home since they are large dogs with large bladders, other than that we leave the dogs with my father if we are going away for the weekend.

both saints actually hate the snow:???:

If we are skiing local we have my in-laws stop in and spend some time with the dogs. If we are going for an overnight stay we drop them off in RI. Yes I know, we live in SW CT and RI is a hike. But to us its worth it. It only takes us 1.5 hrs to get to Ashaway RI. The kennel is owned by a weimaraner breeder (we have weims) and the kennel manager is a great guy. If we are heading North on a Friday we will drop the dogs in RI on Thursday in the late afternoon. We usually pick them up on Sunday around 5 pm. There are a number of places that are closer. But after visiting them I was not impressed. Many of them are functional but look run down.

I can't remember where you guys are in CT. But Camelot Pet Resort in Ashaway RI is a great place and has reasonable prices. Mention the Grassi's or even better Crosby and Bella.

I don't think I'd want a dog with as much mass as a St. Bernard angry with me...

Less mass than a St., but a 60 lb weimaraner sprinting at you at top speed is scary. Our older weim took me out once and almost blew my knee out another time.

It takes ALOT to get a Saint angry with a human, my male saint is a wallflower that loves any and all people especially children. Genesis is aggressive with other dogs because she was abused, malnourished, tyed up and beaten up by other dogs before we rescued her.

The hair and the dog spit on the walls is another matter entirely.

We have a cocker spaniel. She's actually good for about 12-16 hrs on her own bladder-wise, but I hate leaving her like that. When we did our Killington daytrip, I had a friend stop by to let her out and feed her in the evening. Weekend, we had her stay with family. We did bring her along once when Brian went to an ESA (I think that's what it is) at Stowe, but I wasn't skiing that time. The place we stayed at was dog-friendly though and I believe they had on site kennels to use if you could leave your dog alone. Or babysitters you could pay for.

Ever read Cujo?

Yup, no worries, we have a Brittany. Already as crazy as Cujo, just about 1/15th the size.

East Hampton. Thanks, but extending ride and no TV and no beer and 7 year old make Homer something something.....

Yeppers, that's the idea, just not planning on hitting $towe this year.

I would try this site then:
http://www.dogfriendly.com/

It looks like where we stayed is no longer in business as such. It was called something like Two Dog Inn but the site is no longer active. However, I'm sure there are other places (even outside of Stowe :D) that are dog-friendly and have options for dog-sitting, if required.

Check out the Paw House Inn in (I think) West Rutland. The place is very similar to the one Sev described. The couple who run the place are great. They have a separate building with indoor runs for the dogs to chill while you ski. They will walk or play with your dog mid-day. Your dog can sleep with you in your room. They also have a great fenced in play area set-up with all kinds of dog agility equipment.

Cortina Inn accepts dogs in the old wing of the hotel and we took my Saint to Killington a few years back.

I'm a part time dog trainer in my spare time and can recommend a list of places in MA and Northern CT if you're interested in that neck of the woods...

Kewl, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Can you get him to stop acting like a butt-head, too?

Depends... gotta train the owner before you can train the dog ;)

But seriously, if you need some advice feel free to shoot me a PM.

I always brought my dog with me. There are a ton of pet friendly hotels out there.
My dog like going to the mountains. He would get all excited when I mentioned it. Usually I would get up take him out in the woods before I left in the morning. Come back take him back out in the woods and repeat each day i was there.

Got sick of it so I moved to the mountains
