There is an abandoned ski area about 5 minutes from my house in Vernon. It was called Henry Park and my son and I go sledding on the other side of the hill.

There are still a few light poles and rope tow tire rims standing among some overgrown brush. The slope is quite steep and ends in the backyard of a few homes.

There is also an abandoned hill at UCONN/ Horsebarn Hill but we could not find it when we looked for it a few weeks ago. Horsebarn Hill itself is a near suicidally steep sledding hill that we go to with about 80-100' of vertical.

Great stuff Skidmarks, thanks for posting!!!

If the snowpack here in CT continues to maintain it's present level or increases be sure to check out Sweatheart Hill in Collinsville! http://www.nelsap.org/ct/canton.html It's on public land and still somewhat skiable.

I love this pic:

Yankee Ingenuity at it's best. Looks like they pulled the engine and tranny right out of the vehicle, fabbed up a custom "drive shaft", added a gear and some pillow blocks...bam! You've got your tow engine. I love stuff like that. Using what you have to make something else.

FYI, I took that photo and the vin# I pulled from the engine block says that it was from a 1957 vintage GM vehicle. :)

I'd love to rehab that and set it up in my backyard. Not sure my wife would share the same feelings though.:p

Thanks. I checked it out last fall and it looks do-able. How's the snow? That place will need some steep and deep...
