I thought I'd point out that Berkshire East has a new website & has released their lift ticket prices for '07-'08. I know a lot of people here don't frequent BEast a lot but there are a few us out there that enjoy hitting it when there's good snow. I'll be spending some time at BEast this year so I'm kind of excited about the new content. For those of you who haven't tried BEast, I encourage you to check it out this season!

Definitely on my must visit list. About an hour away and the $25 midweek tickets look good too.

I always thought it was the (lack of) grooming, good classic new england trails, and never any crowds that made the BEast so good. Best place in SNE right after a dump without question. I want to get there a couple times this season.

I tried to post this last night, but my computer hiccuped and lost the post, so here we go again.

Maybe my memory is a little fuzzy, but I thought the beast trail wasn't on the map in the past years, its on there now though.

Overall the new site looks pretty good, but the styling looks a little dated to me. I do like the descriptions for most of the trails though, I always find that kind of stuff useful when looking at new places to ski.

I have to agree with Greg in regards to the grooming too, the lack of is one of their best assets.

In jr high and high school, my hometown rec dept would run bus trips to BEast a couple of times per year.

Trip was for 1 day of skiing, spaghetti/meatball dinner, and then night skiing afterwards.

Good times.

I'm stoked to get back to Berkshire East this year...I'm all about places like it. Very down to earth vibe.

I agree, Brian. The style looks a little too retro but a website change is a good sign for the upcoming season, regardless of the look. It just gets me that much more pumped for a good season.

Check-out the deal on Fridays during peak season: ski from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for $25! That's tough to beat if there's good snow, even if it would be physically difficult to ski all day & all night.

I haven't been yet, but labeling trails as extreme is a bit of a stretch isn't it?

The two double diamonds at Berkshire East are not your typical southern New England expert trails.

Well, Beast, while not necessarily the steepest run in SNE, it's definitely the most technical:

I've never skied Tomahawk, but it doesn't look that steep based on what you can see from Jug. As far as Beast goes though, I think it's fair to label it "extreme" as compared to the other runs at Berkshire East.

I have skied Tomahawk, and the lower section is much better than the upper. The times i have skied it at least the pine trees on the upper section kept a lot of the snow from getting to the ground. The lower section where there are no pine trees is great!!

Looks challenging, but not too steep. Maybe some of that has been lost through the photo?

I know it's mostly marketing, but I thought we all got over naming everything extreme in the 90's? Just label them experts only or something.

It's always hard to capture pitch in a photo. It's pretty steep. It's not incredibly steep, nor incredibly long, but it's certainly challenging. Again, as with all trail designations, they are relative to the other trails at a given ski area. Beast certainly is in a class of its own as compared to other runs at the BEast. Given that, I'll give them a pass on the marketing hype factor.

The Beast trail has been on the map since 1999 if I recall. There are quite a few that aren't on the map.

Thanks for the correction, I knew you'd know the answer. I guess I'm just getting senile in my old age... ;)
