I bought new boots last time I was up in NH, and this past weekend I got a chance to try them out for the first time. Oh man, what a difference.
I had always heard that a good pair of boots is better than a good pair of skis, but I was a bit skeptical. Was I wrong. For the past 5 years, I've been on the cheapest boot in the store (50 flex), and I bought a new pair of Rossi Synergy Sensor2 110. It's a whole new ballgame.
The first thing I noticed was that it forces me in a forward position, which helps me with my bad habit of sitting in the backseat. Second, the response I get from my skis is unbelievable. My old boots were so soft and packed down, that I had a lot of wiggle room, and on difficult terrain my skis wouldn't necessarily react the way I wanted them to. Now, it's almost "See line, ski line".
I know I'm bordering on hyperbole here, but my new boots made me a better skier overnight. If anybody is considering a new pair of boots, and isn't sure if it's worth the purchase, it definitely is.
