Trip Report: The wife and I took the dogs for a little hike at Ski Sundown today. I had my picture taken for my Ski Sundown savings card. After I mugged for the camera we started our hike. The hike was pretty uneventful.... until we started our trip down. As we came down Canyon Run we crossed over to the sundeck to take a look for the little tree run that I've heard about. The wife and I were standing on the bench of the sundeck looking down the slope. Our little pup (1.5 yrs.) came blasting between as and tried to jump over the top rail of the sundeck. Luckily my wife was able to catch her. As we looked at each other and said holy S, our older dog Crosby (3.5 yrs.) came blasting down the same path and cleared the top rail of the sundeck. My heart skipped a beat as I saw her hind legs going over her head. As she was tumbling forward I saw her entire belly. Some how she managed to land on her front paws and stick the landing. If you have never been to Sundown before and looked behind the sundeck you would be as shocked as we were. The drop from the railing had to be 10 - 15 feet. I would say 10 to be safe, but 15 wouldn't be a stretch. As I looked down at her she looked up at me with a shocked look in her eye. I ran around the side of the sundeck and she came towards me. Luckily Crosby didn't have a scratch on her. She finished off the hike as if nothing happened.
I had no intention of writing up a serious report. I just wanted to share this story with some of the Sundown regulars who have an idea of what that drop is like. I would have snapped off a pic of the drop but our camera crapped out on us after we took just one shot looking up Nor'Easter.
On a lighter note, that hike and getting my savings card really got the jones going. Let it snow!
