4sure, and it should be physical impossible to groom a true double black IMO.

A double diamond at Okemo looks like this:

It's too flat to be groomed.

Here's a challenge for all the Okemo bashers. Let's all meet up for a full day Sel's Choice bump session and then tell me if you're tired at the end of the day.

I got more than my fill of fun skiing in on 4/6:

Being tired doesn't make the mountain, as a whole, fun or interesting -- it's a factor, yes, but not a complete standard. They have a couple fun runs. It doesn't mean it adds up to an enjoyable mountain to spend much time at. Can I be amused for a day there? If everything is open (their limited glades, etc.), yes. Would I ever choose to go there over many other mountains? No way. While I can do repeat runs to some extent, I just can't spend all day on a couple runs. And it's a pain to have to go across a ton of uninteresting runs to find those couple fun runs.

That’s a good post. You’re not writing Okemo sucks and hitting submit reply. You’re laying out your reasons. Everyone has their preferences and ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Okemo does a great job catering to the type of skier that enjoys what they have to offer.

Thanks. I agree Okemo does a great job for their market. Randomly guessing, I'd say 90% of the AZ skiers/boarders are not their market. So it's no surprise that lots of Okemo bashing goes on here. If a self-proclaimed intermediate skier interested in groomed runs asks me for a recommendation, Okemo will top my list, and I'd assume it would top the lists of others here as well. If someone is interested in more advanced terrain, I would recommend against it. Most of the people here are in the later category. I don't think anyone's criticism here is meant to say that Okemo isn't great for certain people, it's just an expression of a preference that, not surprisingly, is shared by most AZ posters.

Couldn't agree more.

In addition, the lack of challenging terrain at Okemo is just one of many attributes of the place I'm not a fan of. With precious few exceptions, the trails have been blasted and lobotomized into carbon copies of each other. They overgroom and make a bunch of manmade at a place with 600,000 plus skier visits and not a huge amount of terrain to spread out on. This inevitably leads to poor snow surfaces on by mid/late morning on your typical weekend.

As for the picture posted above, it's early December (a signifcant % of people don't begin their seasons until X-Mas) and I have to ask what day of the week that was. I don't recall any huge dumps like that during early Decmber weekends at Sugarbush this year, but I could be misremembering. If it's midweek, that doesn't tell me much.

If that is your criteria for a great mountain, 1 trail of seeded bumps and your tired after 8 hours of continually skiing it then Pokemo is a great mountain.

If you want, meet me at the top of Sneaux and we can do laps on ripcord and the plunge, perhaps I'll even show you Goat path. Chances are you will be tired by 11:00. Does that make Sneaux a worldwide destination??? probably not but I will take the terrain and the 251 FAN GUNS over pokemo any day.

What area fires people up more. Killington or Okemo.

I think we need a Bash Tenney Mtn thread. Or maybe we could start drilling Middlebury ski bowl next. There has to be more targets out there. Everyone grab their pitchforks.

We already have the "Least Favorite Ski Area(s)" thread, the "What ski areas will you never ski again?" thread, and the "What areas will you ski again, but hate to admit it?" thread. Plenty of Okemo and other bashing going on there to satisfy everyone :)

Oh no you didint

That's my home mountain you're calling out

even though I've only skied there once and it was in the early 90's

BUT I am a pass holder now. Hell, I had to go for it at $99 and being only an hour and a half away. I figure they'll be at least five or six Saturdays next winter where the snow conditions within a day trip distance of me aren't gonna be worth putting up with major crowds.

I'll probably be bashing Tenney more than anyone next winter  .....but my expectations are quite low for $99

+1
To be fair. The only time I have skied Okemo was during my third year of skiing. I was with a group of Intermediate/Beginner friends. I explored the mountain during the morning finding the most interesting terrain on the South Face area. However, the lift line became too long for my patience and I ended up doing laps on the seeded bumps on the Ledges trail riding the slow fixed grip Sachem Quad (no line). That was fun but it would get real old after a couple of days.
I highly doubt that I would go back unless it was again with a group of friends that were looking for this type of terrain.

I've been waiting for this. Okemo's my home mountain, and I'm ready for something new.

I agree with I [Hart] Skiing; Okemo's not the toughest mountain out there, but it is F.U.N.
