Not sure how many "NEW" Ski resorts are being planned but one might be closer then expected in the future. A Long Overdue Ski Resort is Finally Being Planned in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada!

If the terrain is only within the green lined zone on the topo, meh. They will need some steep lines and terrain (for example, up and to the left of the zoned box) if they inted to draw skiers/riders to what is mostly the middle of nowhere. Elko BTW has minimal airline service now and I don't see that increasing anytime soon. Mammoth and June are established resort areas and MMH has minimal airline services right now.

Folks thought LBO was nuts for trying to rebuild the Balsams in NH, which is much closer to major population centers. I don't see this taking off in the Rubies, just too remote.

They are trying to work out a some land swaps with the government according to the article to get full peak acecess is atleast on the menu. Owner seems even willing to put in smaller lifts first to just get the mountain running

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
Lol best of luck. Nevada makes the most rural areas of Utah look like the DC-Boston corridor. Whole lotta nothing (other than meth labs).

3 hours from SLC airport. Hard sell when the entirety of the Wasatch resorts and PC are within 1.5 hours.

Beautiful but empty country. One upside is that Elko still has the occasional casino charter. $99 RT flights and cheap casino lodging.

But after listening to TrailBoss moan on and on about the Canyon crowding, perhaps that's the Ruby ticket to gold.

A slight jog to the right (or left if you please). 2 places in Colorado trying to become "reborn". I keep hearing Stagecoach (which can be seen from Steamboat) is supposed to try again maybe as a private venture. The other one is kind of like what's going on in Maine with Squaw (or whatever name they call it now). Cuchura Mountain has reopened at least a lower lift and is trying to come back. If they open the summit it looks like it would be worth the trip.

300" of powder and 4250' of vertical (if they're able to build to the peak)? That gets my attention real fast.

Here in the northeast, future new resorts/pods include the Balsams (not holding my breath, and not sure if reopening a shuttered resort counts as “new”), and the Northface expansion at Berkshire East which might start happening next summer. Are there any others ? Sugarloaf (West Mountain) and Loon (South Peak / Timbertown) are more or less done, right ?

Speaking of Bekshire East, I believe there was talk of them expanding Catamount on the NY side. Never saw a map or a plan though.

Expansions we have some remote chance of skiing over next several decades:

Loon westward expansion beyond south peak
Pleasant West Side
Waterville Green Peak towards town
Sunday River beyond Jordan
Gunstock Alpine ridge or beyond pistol
Sunapee west bowl
Interconnect

Need a miracle:
Jay West Bowl
Burke West Bowl
Ragged Pinnacle
Sugarbush above Inverness
Bretton Woods Stickney
Big Moose upper mountain

I don't think Chuchura got the lift going, looks like they used a cat towing a sled. Only to the top of the lower lift unfortunately. I'm holding out for summit access.

Don't forget the old Highmount area that Belleayre might re-open and incorporate into the resort.
And while it likely won't happen under current ownership, Saddleback still owns a ton of land to the East and West of the current resort footprint that has been the subject of many master plans of yore.

Stickney already is open for skiing and has a lift.
Is sugarloaf still thinking about a lift in burnt ridge area?

Isn’t that what the OP first posted?
God damn it! 😂 I should have started at the top.

Ok, the Deer Valley expansion is moving ahead.

And theoretically the Oquirrh Mountain project on the west side of the SLC area is still alive.

Well, I would call the old Balsams ski area a "resort". It was a ski area, nothing more. If LBO puls off even half his ski terrain plan, te new Balsams will dwarf the old footprint. So yeah, I'd call that new.
