Just ran across this. Pretty cool. I remember when I was working in construction between 2003 - 2007 I was fascinated with the construction of the Burj Khalafi. This building is a several hundred feet taller.

I wonder when the first BASE jump video will come out?

Funny and pitiful at the same time. It seems like tall building are more than just that, they also represent wealth and power. For the longest time the tallest buildings were in the United States. Guess power is shifting. :(

What used to be two of the tallest buildings in the world got knocked down and along with them so did a lot of power.

I'm just amazed by this! And am really looking forward to what I'm hoping will be a bunch of "Discovery Channel-esque" periodic update shows about the construction of this tower in the coming years! :)

it seems to me that it's nothing more than engineering and financing ego. These superscrapers are amazing no doubt, but I don't really see the point. Don't get me wrong, I love architecture, including skyscrapers, but I just don't see the value in having buildings rise 2000+ feet in the air.

I suppose but what's the value of having someone walk on the moon? It's just a goal to work towards that demonstrates human ingenuity. :flag:

that 1.2B price tag could build a lot of schools over there to further improve human ingenuity ;)

I'm convinced the whole tallest building thing has its' roots in penis envy.

With oil around $100 per barrel (and no realistic signs of any appreciable decline in that price in the future), I think that the funding for this project (and a bunch of new schools, should the Saudi's so choose) is there :(

Nice view. My wife lost a good friend of hers on 9/11 (http://www.lynngoodchild.com) . I've been to ground zero a few times but the last time I went (I think it was the 5 year anniversary) it was still a pit. good to see some progress there.

I remember reading that about Lynn... Terrible...

Just saw a new report this morning that it is now the tallest building in lower Manhattan

I never had actually personally met her unfortunately, I met my wife a few weeks after 9/11.

Building looks very nice, can't wait to see it completed. I'll make a trip down to NYC at some point!
