Where length and width of real estate is often consumed...ie ranch-style, an alternative(although I still am to be convinced these are immune from huge quakes) is to go up. Who knows what the answers are.....to preserve land, area-wise, from/for-further development....but the Chinese, Taiwanese(?), Arabs, and Japanese (and American companies) are doing stuff = certainly providing work... But I agree, some of these mega-projects often leave ya' scratchin' you head wondering just how long the foundations will last...;-)
