While some folks have probably already visited it via links in a few earlier posts on AZ, I wanted to announce NewEnglandSkiHistory.com.

Parts of the site have been in development for years. While there is a little bit of overlap, the site is generally meant to be a complement to what's covered on NELSAP.

Major components include:

There's still a lot of work to be done, but I hope you find what's already up to be interesting!

Nice work! I checked out the Mt Snow section...lots of good info! Never knew about that other area that had been proposed.

no love for CT and RI?? they are part of new england too
I haven't been able to find too much in relation two the four main topics of the site, but I imagine some stuff will emerge at some point!

I am most interested in CCC trails for my adventures. I was looking for a list to tick off and this is perfect. Thanks!

Glad that helps...it's not a complete list (some trails still missing, others might not be CCC), but I'll continue to work on it as I get information.

It's a good start, threecy. I'll keep my eyes peeled for reference to CCC trails and let you know.

Thank you! I have decent resources on the New Hampshire trails (and have found parts of some of the abandoned ones in recent years), however I'm very much lacking in terms of 1930s/40s resources in Vermont.

Right where I want to be
um, yeah, if it involves opening new peaks. There has been so much resistance to building any new resorts that it would probably take the govt to push it through the objections.

It was directed at Threecy because of his objections to the State owning Cannon and his highjacking of the Mittersill expansion thread. It was in a joking manner.

I kinda knew that, but really wanted to vent about another issue near and dear...
So beat me too, cause that was my attempt to further hijack it!

Do you think the government should have been in the business of cutting ski trails? ;)

That's actually a good question. It seems that back then there were many less barriers in terms of public property use. While many trails were cut using government funding, others were indeed done privately. Of the "CCC trails," quite a few were cut with the help of the government workers, rather than at the direction of.

Regardless, they were cut and some are still in use today. Frankly, I find the history of the abandoned ones to be much more compelling.

Wasn't this what they did at Mansfield/Stowe? CCC labor under the direction of Perry Merrill and the others?
IIRC, that was when the trails were hike to. Not sure how many CCC cuts happened after the lifts went in. Much more frequently, the lifts went in where the CCC trails were built (Stowe, Cannon, Wildcat, etc.).
