That article has link to National Ski Areas Association: Industry Stats which has many interesting statistics.

One of them is Ski Areas By State. In that list, one entry stood out was Alabama 1.

I googled for "alabama ski" and found this. Never expected there is ski area way down there.

NY has the most, by 12 at 50!

The ski area in Alabama is called 'Cloudmont'; and it's a golf course the rest of the year.

It has a 150' vertical on a slope 1000' long. Don't knock it, that's a 1000 foot diagonal!.

There's skiing in Missouri, too.
