In my early days of skiing..90% of my skiing was night skiing with my middle school ski-club..in those days..skiing during the daytime was a novelty. There are some season passholders I know who totally swear off night skiing due to cold and shadows..that's good by me..less people to get in my way...For me the best cure for the mondays is going night skiing after work..

I absolutely love night skiing. I ski 3-4 nights a week all winter. As far as vision, I can see better at night than the day time. The shadows show the contour of the snow much better than the sun.

If it weren't for night skiing, I'd be lucky to get 10 days a year...

Night skiing can be a huge draw in the right demographic. It can also be a huge bust in the wrong demographic, It CAN?MIGHT ? be thought of as a niche market by someone with a lot of long term financial patience. Long term patience, as keeping a reputation for night skiing can task your bottom line while you try to sell that aspect. of the business.

right now, making snow to get open will cripple many small ski area budgets. Water pumps are electric, but those on-hill compressors are diesel fired dragons, and they suck up a lot of red-dyed fuel/

Heck, its all opinion. the article was a fluff piece.

I grew up skiing Mt Southington in central CT, and as early as 1968, their lights came on at 4 PM.

Just after I left CT for college, my parents moved to Farmington Maine, while I went to Waterville/ Colby. I had a several choices back then (1970's).

I could borrow a car and go home ( 45 minutes ) to ski Titcomb MTN at night ( LOL get a home cooked dinner, go ski with my sisters, while my Mom did my laundry and packed me up with a college love box) .

I could equally well hook up with traffic from Colby to travel to Eaton Mtn in Skowhegan for night skiing.

a year later and I was in a relationship with someone at UMO. From UMO, there was a choice between Hermon Mtn and Bald Mtn, for night skiing, and that was great, too.

Now I live in West Bethel Maine. Mt Abrams has offered night skiing on a limited basis for a few years. It hasn't been successful for them. IMHO the more you cater to on-mountain housing, the less successful night skiing will be. People who have on-mountain or near mountain digs won't night ski, it is just not their cuppa tea. They will ski days, but they have a place to be at night, and it is called THEIR SECOND HOME.

( BOYNE) Sunday River would like to think they can add Night skiing to their quiver. Nice addition to the buzz, certainly put it on the table, but I don't think ( just my humble opinion) that the demographic will really support it. Home, hot tub, and apres ski AT HOME will drive the bus for most distance owners.

I liked seeing it featured, even if it was a fluff piece. I love night skiing! And it looks like I'll be doing as much of it as I can this season as my one shift a week at Sundown will = free night skiing pass. :D
