Big difference is Sugarloaf had a set date and went to that date, Killington, said one thing and did another.

I was up there on Friday. I took a day off from work and got up early to make the drive. Got there to find a windhold. Nothing they could do, but I was wondering why not run their cabin cat and the T-Bar?

While folks were bitching, I quietly strapped my skis onto the backpack and climbed it. Got a day of hiking in, bagged a needed 4,000 foot peak, and got some nice turns to boot:

Found some pieces of ski history as well:

Summited in a reasonable amount of time:

And the skiing was great:

I'm not bitching about The Loaf because I don't give a s**t what they do.

I was pissed about Killington because it's someplace I was actually planning on going to.

Oh well, if K was open I would have missed a sweet day at Jay.

It took a beating on Sat and Sunday. The Loaf got a bit of NCP Sat afternoon early evening. It was 78F at the base when I left yesterday. Gauge and skidder really were the only trails top to bottom side to side well covered. You had to walk out a few hundred yards to the bottom. Spillway running made it the perfect. It was time to close. No issue at all IMO.

Sugarloaf tried, and made things happen even when it meant spending some green to do so. Killington marketed May 2nd, had the product to do so, then called it quits with a bullshit excuse, not gonna fly no matter what business your in.

Quoted for truth.

Since they closed on the same day, who gets the King of Spring title: Jay or Loaf? Using boxing rules, the former champion (in this case, the Loaf) gets to keep the title in a draw, right?

Sorry K-Mart, but Sugarloaf gets my thumbs up. Planning a trip there next season with the new Mrs. for a vacation!

i guess if you're goin by the book it's the loaf title for the taking, but it sounds like Jay had the better weekend of the two

The Loaf stayed open straight through. Well except for the Wind hold. ) I think we had 30 trails at the Loaf on Saturday as well. Got to go with the Loaf. Hard to beat Steve and his marketing though.

This.

And for Boyne passholders the season ran from October 14th to May 2nd. Hard to complain about that.

As to who is the King of Spring, the crown has to go to the loaf, as they never shut down midweek as Jay Peak did. To further solidify that, they had more open terrain.

Jay got more snow from the mid-week storm, but then ended up with only two trails open and huge lift lines. Great for them, but lift lines suck in spring. Sugarloaf had tree-skiing if you knew where to go. Saturday's 39 trails didn't take into account the closed terrain that was skied by Bobr. More terrain on more vert and being open continuously. Not taking anythign away from Jay, but SL gets the crown again. Imagine if they made a good amount of snow at SL!!!

Yea, this (which has been discussed to death but some folks still don't seem to understand the difference  ). This thread seems like blatant pot stirring. A more sure sign than the Green Theme that no ski areas in New England remain open.
