Tomorrow Jay plans to have only the tbar and the Metro quad open. The jet is down for maintenance. Rumor is the the main bearing in the upper bullwheel needs replacing. They were working on it all day today but haven't finished yet. Doesn't look good for tomorrow. Also too many sections of the upper mountain have been wind scoured so they decided against opening the tram. To make matters worse tomorrow is Telefest.

I would not recommend Jay tomorrow for lift service skiing. Those willing to earn their turns however should have a good day.

Still not ready to go for Sunday according to their web site (which confirms the bearing rumor). BUMMER for Jay Peak. Such a big jack pot weekend to be closed and add in telefest too. I guess they did not get enough natural to open up the Bonnie instead of the Jet? I was hoping they would get it open for Sunday. Time to make alternate plans.

On the bright side, nice to see a resort tell people they can feel free to earn their turns if they want. Other than MRG and Jay, I don't recall seeing that actively promoted any where else.

Got the word from Bill Stenger today that the Jet triple should be ready for Monday. Problem with the upper mountain is that the main trails like Northway have been scoured by the wind and are not skiable.

Lets hope the snow making moves up to the upper mountain soon.

That's more believable. I would have expected summer Preventative maintenance to catch things like bearings.

What lift will be running there this week?

Update from their web site:

The Jet Triple Chair will be down for mechanical reasons again on Monday. Looks like it will be running again on Tuesday. We'll keep you updated. The Metro Quad, Queens t-bar, and Moving Carpet will be open accessing 10 trails and glades.

Jay's terrible weekend was their own fault! There has been issues with the Jet for 2 seasons now... no maintenance over summer and now before the first real weekend something breaks...

Steve made a great post about "brand falling appart because of buffing toenails"... or something... Instead of putting millions into "extra" infrastructures, a few bucks might help keep their MAIN product online...

That being said, the mountain wasn't fully ready to be open... This weekend i toured everything from JFK to Timbuktu... Everything is rideable... Northway could have handled the crowd but the lower part of the mountain was thin in some areas... nothing that a few overnight guns can't fix.

Yes the mountain was beaten by the winds... but it was great where snow pilled up. Green Beret had some nice snow and Milk run was awsome. Timbuktu still needs snow not to be scary... JFK was incredible as well... Vermonter was almost a waste sinced they groomed most of it. Northway and goat run only need a day of snowmaking each to open them top to bottom.

In all, the mountain is in great shape. We received 4-6in of very dense snow last night. Good base building material. I think we're lining up for a good time on the mountain in the next week or so! Hope it keeps up!

Aside from the aforementioned Magic, Camden Snow Bowl way up the Maine coast has a published closed days ski policy. Camden is high on my to-do list though for a three-hour drive, it almost certainly has to be when they've gotten whomped by a big coastal storm that misses the inland mountains.
