BROWNSVILLE, Vermont — Freedom and grace are two words that commonly describe the flow of a telemark skier. For more than 20 years, Vermont telemark guru Dickie Hall has dedicated his life to popularizing telemark skiing, sharing his secrets on how to decrease thigh burn and finding that personal expression in which to move.
For those seeking their own personal telemark experience, Hall will host a Telemark Workshop at Ascutney Mountain Resort March 4-5, 2006.
Hall is known for his enthusiasm and desire to spread the word about the sport. He started his career in skiing at The North American Nordic Center in Killington, Vt. in the early 1970s. He went on to work at several other cross-country ski centers before opening the first telemark-specific ski school in the U.S. at Mad River Glen, Vt. in the late 70’s. He went on to found the North American Telemark Organization (NATO) conducting clinics across the U.S. attended over the years by more than 40,000 skiers and 1,000 ski instructors. He also produced the first series of instructional videos on telemark skiing including "The Telemark Workshop, "The Telemark Movie," "Revenge of the Telemarkers" and most recently, "The Joy of Telemark Skiing."
The two-day program is the most complete two-day on snow Telemark clinic offered in North America and is designed for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced telemarkers and is staffed accordingly. The focus for two days is on plenty of skiing, technique analysis with video taping, corrective exercises, skill building skiing games and casual and focused coaching on personal skiing styles. On-snow plus indoor sessions are used to learn and develop body positions, linking turns, single and double poling, and more.
