Snow Conditions
  1. Powder
  2. Sticky
Palasides Tahoe was closed today due to high winds and rain but I noticed that Northstar, 30 minutes down the road, was fully opened so I gave it a shot. I only skied there for an hour and a half or so doing a handful of runs but I got a good feel for every section of the mountain aside from the park. Northstar reminded me of a fancier version of Mt Snow. They are definitely trying to be the Deer Valley/Beaver Creek of California here. The tree skiing is mellow but very good under nice conditions. Unfortunately like the previous days at Palasides Tahoe, the snow towards the middle and bottoms of each run were very sticky. I don't think I'd ski the Tahoe area again unless it was spring conditions. The snow is too hit and miss here making it less reliable during the main parts of the season. Utah or Colorado snow is a safer bet during the prime winter months. In any event, I'm glad I tried it and would definitely come back to Northstar one day to ski the trees again. Here are some photos, the snow looks much better than what it was.....

I love the Tahoe area too, I just don't like the sierra cement!
