Got the morning off. We had 2 house guests and I preped breakfast fot eh GM who lives next door to walk over and do it. Slept in a bit, got the skins on at 8 and headed up the road and into the woods. Total accumulation from the weekend here was a solid 2 feet. Ski penetration was deep, almost to the bottom. Breaking trail for the first 20 minutes was work. Knee to mid thiegh. Then I got up to lift line and found a skin track. Cruised the rest of the way up lift line to tally ho. Went right for the woods. They looked fantastic. Deskinned and dropped in to find them still VERY sketchy. Everything was covered, but still very much in play. Skinned back up off the paine Mtn trail to the top of the area and dropped into lift line. The steeps skied wonderfully. Burrowing down thru chin deep in the tele crouch. Had to shuffle the flats do to snow depth. Got down to the last good pitch and bumped into my old room mate from Stowe who married my sister-in-laws's sister, so we're almost related. W skinned back up and hit Downhill to the bottom. This had a few old tracks from Sunday afternoon which was nice to get accross some of the flat spots, but plenty of snow to romp in. Great day. Really nice to get out and play in the deep deep fulff, but I'm glad for this warm up. Hopefully we don't lose much and the freeze tomorrow night will lock in all the nasty shrapnel lurking in the natural woods.

is it me or are people not aware of what the woods should be like. there are still a lot of nasty shit that needs to be covered up before they are really ready. some people seem to be content to follow other peoples lines but i dont see the fun in that. nice little place you got going there.

It seems that every year people are going into the trees sooner and sooner. Over on TGR there are some UVMers been riding woods for a long time now at Stowe. I made a comment about a 40 inch rule and he said, "the woods are basically fine." Then he post pictures of his smashed helmet after sticking his tip under a rock and ragdolling down a gully that takes a long time to fill in and bouncing his head off another rock. His buddy butt-checked on a stump a few days before. Young and dumb. Hopefully they don't get hurt too bad. I'd rather ski casually in nice snow on open trails then ski trees and risk missing the whole season..
