re:.....great late Winter hiking weather(in Maine)!!

My wife and I have decided to hold off our Loon trip until next weekend. Between the weather and this stupid 24 hour bug going around, our desire to ski has gone downhill fast.

Aside from being a FirstDay on new boots(Lasers) day...today was a pretty inspirational day for late Winter hiking here in mid-Maine. Thirties without a cloud in the sky.
Hope it was as nice around the rest of NewEngland 8)

It's almost 4 p.m. and it's still snowing in the Boston area. Not sticking to my car which I can see in the lot, but it is sticking to the grass. Must be kind of warm outside. Don't know as I have not been out all day. I talked with a friend in Maine and it was snowing a bit up there as well. Not much, but it was snowing! I am supposed to ski Sunday River this weekend and have a week at the loaf coming up the 3rd weekend. C'mon snow gods!

Weird, weird, weird winter weather this year! Where's our dumping for crying out load! I noticed Cannon's crash test dummy race is coming up. That always means the end of ski season. I don't feel like we had much of one! :(

Yes it truly looks like things are coming to a close. But maybe that's just because I've been skiing Southern New England for most of the season.

I took a big break durning the extreme cold of Jan & Feb, thinking my time is coming... Looks like I'm running out of time fast!

I have one 3 day trip for the end of March planned. At least it's up north.

As for the weather, hopefully we will get some snow Wednesday night into Thursday.

Yahoo! Monday's AND Tuesday's snow really helped conditions at Mad River Glen when we skiied there Tuesday and today... more on that to come (just got home after driving for about 6 hours--I'm beat!). :D
Good way to say goodbye to the season!

When spring finally takes over, try hiking to waterfalls and see the views on mtn summits. Until the snow arrives for next winter's skiing. Beats watching tv -- well maybe watching Survivior is ok.

Looking forward to your reports! And the season's not over yet. You've got time to get out for a few more runs!

Report is posted... I would like to add some photos when I have a chance to get them online. I don't know how good they will be--the first 2 days were done with a throw-away waterproof camera. On the last we lugged our heavy digital camera but couldn't see the LCD screen in the bright sunlight, so I have no idea how those came out either.
As for the season being over, for me it is. We have a dog so we can't daytrip any further away than an hour. Considering the lack of snow we saw all the way from Burlington, VT down to home in CT yesterday, I can safely say it's over for us. I don't think anything within an hour's drive (I'll include Catamount & Butternut even though they're slightly over an hour) will be worth the trip at this point... Oh well, there's always hiking!

She's a cocker spaniel..need I say more? ;)
The most we can leave her for is about 8 hours--after that, it's iffy if she can hold it. And my husband isn't satisfied unless we get in at least 6 hours of skiing, otherwise he feels like we've overpaid. I tried talking him into going to Berkshire East before, but he felt it was too far away for how much time we would be able to spend on the mountain. It's alright, though. Hiking is fun, too! :)
