Trip Report:

Surprisingly good holiday at Okemo today. Expected a mobscene as I arrived at the main base at 10 AM but parked in a HALF FULL upper lot. Couldn't believe it... even the parking attendants were surprised. Got my $50 ticket (thanks to MOD) and skied on the Base Quad (only 1 running and it was SKI ON!!!...on a HOLIDAY!?!). Northstar had a 3-5 minute wait, but that;s like a normal weekday, usually on holidays it can push 10+. Couldn't believe it.

Spent the AM hitting runs off the South Face Express, including Loose Spruce, Outrage, Double Diamond, Wild Thing, and Punch Line. The woods were a bit thin on cover (expected more base and coverage, but w/e) which made for a few base scratches, but no core shots. Punch Line was seeded with pretty soft bumps but very scraped down in between which took the fun away. Wild Thing was it's usual weird self... always an interesting run.

Cruised over to Jackson Gore for lunch and spent most of the PM over there. Hit Black Hole, Eclpise, Supernova, Tuckered Out, and the new Rolling Thunder and White Lightning. Eclipse has the best and most skiable bumps on the mountain IMO. Black Hole and Supernova were a bit better on coverage than the glades on South Face butwere still a bit boney. The new trails are pretty good. I'd say their claim of them being the steepest at Okemo are pretty valid, although that doesn't really mean much. Still, good to have some more natural ungroomed runs at Okemo. Both were a bit thin on cover and were a mix of natural bumps and some deep crud where they weren't bumped up.

Started to get spent around 3 so I headed back to the main mountain. Hit a couple groomers as well as Searles Way, Sel's Choice, and the lower mountain parks to close out the day. Groomers were in good shape. Searle's was pretty good too, some small bumps here and there. Sel's bumps were pretty solid and not a ton of fun. The parks were pretty good... Okemo does well in that department.

All in all a good day at Okemo. Skiing on lifts on MLK day was a treat. Lots of seeded bumps popping up all over the mountain. They were a bit skied off today, but one good storm and there will be 5-10 great bump runs to hit. I'll be at Magic Wednesday and Wachusett Thursday and Friday. Lots of skiing for me this week.
