Okemo - 1/21/10

Conditions: Temps in the 20's, high winds up top with fog on upper third of the mountain. Sunny down below. Groomed out packed powder, no ice.

Okemo's skiing quite nicely for this time of year. Claimed 100% open but difficult to get to some of the "open" trails on Jackson. Fairly large crowds due to $39 tickets but many trails under no pressure at all. Ungroomed natural snow available on several trails made for pure fun day with my son.

Odd thing - crowds disappeared at 11:15 a.m. - no idea where they all went. Mountain empty after that. ???

My guess, most are season pass holders; they have a great midweek deal at okemo, stratton and sunapee. Okemo does constant grooming, probally ski until all all the snow is scraped off and called it a day. No need to max out on a single day ticket.
