on-air snow reports

just heard the "snow country" report on the radio and was wondering if anyone knows - how do they pick which mountains to mention, is it $$ paid by the resorts?

Probably, I'm guessing they use Snocountry as a way to "disguise" an advertisement (i.e. sounds more like a snow report than a "Come to xxxx resort today!". Just a different way of reaching audiences

Anyone remember Roxy Rockafeld (Sp ?) ? He used to give ski reports on the radio way back when. I haven't heard a ski report on the radio outside of a ski area spot in a long time. Never will forget how he used to say Big Tupper, Big Tupper Lake when reporting for them. Should mention that I'm usually listening to the I Pod so no radio anyway.

I actually found a book from Roxy in a used bookstore and it is quite interesting.

I imagine that if he were still alive that he would be pretty disappointed with the radio ski reports as of late. They have gotten progressively worse. I remember you used to get a good listing of how many trails were open at each resort and you got a good spread of the region. Last year the snow reports from the leading company were mainly a person rambling on about how they had a great day skiing a certain run at XYZ Mountain, and then rush through three other mountains...some not even nearby...so they are not really helpful. But then again who listens to those reports versus actually looking at the mountain's own site?
