The tram won't be done until next season, the Funicular will come the season after. They need to cut a few more trails first. 8)

I would love to see Sugarloaf suprise everyone and go for a mid to late october opening. Other then the financial gain, means, etc they have one of the best setups to pull it off. North, Elevation, Lift at High Elevation. Granted money and location are also important factors, which they don't have going for them.

I think Boyne has settled on having Sunday River be the first to open and relying on Sugarloaf to be the last to close. Something I can live with. Even though I'm chomping at the bit to ski when October rolls around, Spring skiing is much more enjoyable than the wrod.

That is the plan Wa Loaf. Sr down loading and strong snow making system and gun placements make it feasible cost wise to open early and the loaf just holds the snow late season.

Sr will go for an early opening again, no secret there. It just has to be cold enough and stay. By Oct 31 if at all possible.

I'm just hoping it's cold enough in November that most areas are able to open and do a decent Thanksgiving weekend business.

While it was cool skiing SR in mid-Oct, it was not cool seeing almost everywhere closed until December.

It kinda sucked driving across from Killington to ski Sunday River on Thanksgiving. I don't mind doing it in October but to do it at the end of November with less skiing isn't my idea of a good start to the season.

Loaf is not really a good option due to remoteness from metro. 3 hours from Boston metro to SR for uploading is not much of a drive for something cool. But I don't know how many people would drive the extra travel time to the Loaf for a similar product. River has the better setup because they can blow the snot out of a very short vertical section and not need any connecting trails or secondary lifts.

Sr does not hold the snow well enough to make the real late season run unless they took the glacier appoach. Nature holds the snow for the Loaf.

Two years ago very few made the late season ride to the loaf. This year they ran spillway. Folks came late season. Its only the die hards left anyway and many of them have kids sports and other things going on from mid march forward. distance is a concern, but other activities are what kills the end.


Its attitude and swagger first to open last to close.It sells passes and real estate. Word of mouth advertising, internet and ski shows. We are open they are not.
