owning 2 pair of the same skis?

Am I crazy to buy a second pair of the same skis, in the same length? I found a really good deal on some lightly used Legend 8000 with look bindings (demo). I already own a pair and REALLY like them. They are by far the best ski I have ever owned. My reasoning is now I could have a pair for times when there is more of a chance of damage ie: tree skiing, etc. and a pair for everything else. Putting aside the fact that my wife will KILL me....

I think I still have two identical pairs of Rossi 4S's in the rafters (grey and black ones, c1985). I don't think I've had two of the same other than that. I like variety and while I have skis that I really like, I like different skis for different situations (or sometimes just "because").

I have "a few" pairs of skis and I'm still married.

Jeez. I own 3 pairs of Salomon Xtra Hots. I once owned 2 pairs of X-Screams. The oldest of both of those are so beat up they have no camber at all. Back in my skinny ski days, I owned 4 or 5 pairs of 207 K2 5500's I used as powder boards.

dude, it has already been done. three pair here. the first pair snapped though. second pair with look p12s, the third pair with a freeride. technically i have 2.5 pair :D if you like to trash your skis and your skis average only three years, this is not a bad idea. it is like a good pair of shoes... if they stop making your pair or change the specs, you are SOL if you don't have a spare. but you run the risk that something better will come along. if you really know what you like and love and are confident your ski preference or ability is not going to change in a few years, it certainly doesn't hurt. but if you don't trash your skis, average more than a half dozen years per pair, have changing abilities, or changing preferences on ski design, maybe not so much.

They are by far the best ski I have ever owned.
indeed.

Do you have another pair of 8800's too? If so I want them.

Well, now that we have established it's perfectly ok to own 2 pairs of the same skis....the real root of the problem is that I bought two pairs of skis last year (legend 8000 and K2 enemies), sooooo... the wife is REALLY against me getting another pair this year. I would love to have another pair of 8000's to use at Jay, etc. and these are $299 (lightly used) with look demo bindings. I am selling all my ice climbing hardware, so maybe I can talk her into using that $$ to buy these skis......but probably not... :(

No, not crazy at all.

When I find a ski I like, I've been known to buy 2 pair up front just to have the extra pair when the first pair die.

One lesson I'm still learning is when to pick my battles......

If you want another pair of legend 8000, I would wait till the end of the season or another year. imo 299 for slightly use demos might be too much. After my second pair of skis, I justified my third (I wanted softer skis for the bumps), $110 axis x brand new, the year they obsoleted the axis series. I eventually found marker bindings for about $70. Only way I could get it past the gate keeper was items $100 or less, in bits and pieces.

I wouldn't hesitate. $300 for a mounted lightly used pair of legend 8000s is an outstanding deal. You could easily turn them over for that (assuming they are not super short and that the demo binders are reasonably good).

Don't get me wrong, I might jump on a pair of slightly used skis (that I really love) for that price. But if I have to answer to my wife under those circumstances, it changes things.... if you know what I mean.

If there's any solace, a couple of years ago when Dynastar obsoleted the Intuitiv 74, REI and evogear was practically giving them away. I would think that the legend series has it run of time and would be obsoleted soon.

There was your fatal mistake. Why did you tell her about this 2nd pair before you did the deed?

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgivness than permission.

I know I know. I figured she would notice the new skis pretty much right away. I used to be able to get away with mtn bike purchases 'cause she doesn't ride. But she would have caught on about the skis pretty quick.

Absolutely not! U R not crazy! I too have owned the same pair, same size because of a good deal. If you love them, it's worth it! Now you have an extra pair if one pair gets damaged or just plain wears out! :)
