Okemo to host fifth annual Parrothead Party with Jimmy Buffett tribute band

LUDLOW, Vt. - Okemo Mountain Resort celebrates the changing of the seasons on Saturday, Oct. 8, with its fifth annual Parrothead Party. Island breezes will blow as the band Changes in Latitudes takes to the outdoor stage for a free concert at Okemo's Jackson Gore Inn. This popular Jimmy Buffett tribute band takes partygoers on a journey filled with good clean fun to - where else? - Margaritaville. Every musical set is a party with beach balls, conga lines and leis galore.

The party will start at noon with the music of Dave Maguire. Changes in Latitudes will go on at 2 p.m. Okemo's Coleman Brook Tavern staff will be rendering some frozen concoctions and cooking up some cheeseburgers in paradise for concertgoers. They'll even help find that lost shaker of salt, plus beer, wine, soft drinks and barbecue items fresh from the grill. Free hay rides will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. and a farmers' market will feature local produce and assorted goodies.

The fun continues on Sunday, Oct. 9, with a Vermont Institute of Natural Science Raptor Encounter, a free family presentation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Jackson Gore. From 11 to noon, kids can get up close and personal with some heavy equipment during Touch-a-Truck. Starting at noon, an all-American apple pie baking contest is open to all home bakers who would like to submit a delicious entry. Email sebbott@okemo.com for information and an entry form.

In addition to all the Parrothead Party festivities, Columbus Day weekend marks the deadline for early season discounts on the purchase of ski and snowboard season passes at Okemo Mountain Resort. Ski and snowboard season begins November 19 and starting on Oct. 11, all of Okemo's season pass products go to full price. Season passes are a great way to save money on lift tickets and avoid ticket lines. Okemo offers direct-to-lift seven-day passes, five-day passes, midweek passes and even a Sunday One-Day Pass. Some passes include skiing and riding benefits with Okemo's sister resorts, Mount Sunapee, N.H., and Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Colo. Okemo's partnership continues, this winter, with Stratton Mountain, Vt., as well.
