Date Skied: 1/1/2008 (AM)
Resort or Ski Area: Pats Peak, NH
Conditions: PP, Powder, Crud, Bumps
Trip Report: Spent a few hours this morning at Pats Peak. Conditions were packed powder/powder with lots of crud and bumps on the advanced trails. Although the snow report stated that all trails (except Hurricane) were groomed, I doubt that they groomed all of them...of the advanced trails I skied, Cyclone may have been groomed but Tornado and Twister were full of bumps. Didn't ski FIS but I was told that it was also bumped up.
There were a decent number of people there, more than I expected...I was able to get a decent space in the parking lot but they had two lifts running to the summit. Max lift wait was a few minutes, though, and on a few runs I had the trail to myself.
After struggling in the bumps and crud, I realized that I was crouching way too much, so I tried to focus on standing up straight and bringing my hips forward. It seemed to help a decent amount...I didn't get knocked around as much and I didn't have any of the problems with quad burn that I've usually had in the past. I'm still quite a ways from hitting the bumps like the AZ Bump Club, though...
It started to snow at a decent rate about 11:00 or so...unfortunately, I had no plans to hang around the whole afternoon so I left just after the snow started. The ride home was uneventful but I saw the aftermath of several spinouts on the way.
