Trip Report: Spent a few hours at Pats Peak this morning...figured it would be good to finally ski my home mountain when the conditions weren't groomed hardpack.
Since there were very few people, they only summit lift was the triple...a bit slow but I didn't mind the breaks. Skied onto the lift every time, and on many of the runs I only saw other skiers and riders on the runout trails.
The storms of the last week or so have left a lot of snow...lots of powder to be had (OK, so it was only ankle to shin deep...this isn't northern NE). They groomed the green and blue trails but left the advanced trails alone. There wasn't much left that was untracked, so the advanced trails were full of crud and small soft, powdery bumps.
It was quite a humbling experience for me...guess my hardpack skidding skills don't translate all that well to the powder. Got knocked around and in the back seat a lot. I did enjoy the bits of untracked powder that I could find on the sides of the trails, though...took a bit to get used to but I found turning in powder to be easier than trying to blast though the crud. Think I have some mental blocks to work on (need more miles).
Pats Peak should be in good shape for next week...although the powder will likely be gone after this weekend they have great cover, and they should be able to provide the nice, groomed trails that families will like to ski on over the holidays.
Edit: Added a few pictures of Twister.
