Resort or Ski Area: Pat's Peak

Conditions: Pack Pow, some bumps, blue skis and warm sun

Trip Report: I'd call today @ Pat's Peak FAIR. It probably could have/should have been good but crowds and lack of decent lift line mgt skills sucked the fun out of the beginning of our day. If they managed lift lines as well as they managed the parking lot I think we'd have been OK.

first my rant - PP mgt needs to think about their lift line mgt.

- What is the F'ing logic to having a "doubles" lane on a triple chair? to make it worse, the 2 lanes designated "triple" merged after 20 feet while the "doubles" and "singles" lines when right to the lift. Yeah, after 1 loop through that fiasco (taking 40 minutes from click in to exiting the top of the lift) i knew to (A) avoid that lift the rest of the day or (B) just use the "doubles" lane (family skiing with 6 people, singles line really isn't an option for us)

- What is the F'ing logic to having a "singles" lane on a double chair? OK, sure, there might be a group of odd numbered people who make their way through the line and pulling an individual out of the singles line might come in handy occasionally BUT when you simply take a pair from "doubles" lane 1, a pair from "doubles" lane 2, a pair from "doubles" lane 3 and THEN A PAIR FROM THE SINGLES LINE what is the point? After 30 minutes in that line we knew the trick (avoid that lift too)

Ok, so now we've been on the mountain almost 2 hours and have taken a grand total of 2 runs. yes, know it is Christmas week, I know crowds and lines are to be expected but their managing the crowd left a lot to be desired in my mind.

Luckily we spotted the Vortex lift (goes to the top but doesn't start at the base area) and the line there was decent. 8-10 minute wait the rest of the time on the hill. Snow conditions on the hill were good. Skied mostly Greens and Blues with our kids (skiing with my buddy and his kids). The weather was great.

Lodge was so packed we ate lunch outside but it was so warm we enjoyed it. My buddy talked to a few ski instructors in the lodge. They told him it was so crowded that all employees were told not to ski to reduce traffic as much as possible. They also said that nearby Crotched had basically filled their parking lots and people were being turned away. Pat's actually start parking customers in the employee lot down on the main road and busing them to the lodge.

I've run into the same thing at Pat's with the lift lines. At most places the singles line is short and moves fast, but once I got into the single's line there and the liftie just ignored the singles line and it barely moved. After that I skipped the singles line since it was slower than everything else.

I like singles lines on double chairs. Stowe does so on the Lookout Double. They load two rows of the doubles lines and then load a couple of singles. Doesn't really make for a shorter wait for the singles, but it does prevent the chairs from going up with only 1 person on them. To me, making sure a butt is in every seat is the most important thing on a busy day.

i guess its my age showing ... singles line (in my mind) is to fill empty seats, pulling pairs out of the singles line on a double isn't right. especially when i'm in not in that singles line! if i was skiing alone i'd probably have a much more positive opinion of their practices. (well, if i was alone i wouldn't have been @ PP to begin with)

Stowe was the first time I had seen one and my favorable opinion was based on skiing alone at Smuggs the day prior and watching several chairs go up with one person riding them and also riding up solo a couple of times on my own.
