I had only been to Pico once previously last march, and I thought it was fantastic. I declared it then my favorite midsize mountain. It has a laid back vibe, no crowds, fast lifts, quirky, varied, and interesting trails, and a long 2000ft vert. What more do you need from a mountain? More mountains need to be like Pico.

So I had been waiting all winter to be able to take a weekday off so that I could use my Dave Matthews comp pass. Although Pico is a mountain I would gladly pay full price for. This ended up being the right opportunity to tag on a day at Pico after aweekend at Sugarbush.

Woke up to some flurries and got over to the mountain by 8:45. Had no problems with the free ticket. Got on Golden Express within 5 minutes of it opening and headed for the summit. The groomers off the summit were a bit hard early so I headed back down to the base to see if any other lifts besides the two quads were turning. Going up Golden a second time I saw that Outpost was spinning and made way way over there next. Did about 8 or 9 runs in a row off Outpost. The best runs were Bronco groomed and Pipeline ungroomed, but everything skied well with good cover including the glade over there. A lot of other people were doing laps on Outpost aswell. Outpost might be the best trail pod in NE that is 500ft vert or less.

After a very early lunch i headed back to the summit at around 11:30. Now things had softened up real nice. The sun even came out around 1:30. Did everything off the summit about twice before calling it a day at about 2:30 so I could make my journey back to Boston. The best runs were Birch Glades, Birch Woods, Summit Glades, Sunset 71, and Upper Pike. Basically anything ungroomed skied real well but Giant killer and KA were a bit skied off but still enjoyable. There were still plenty freshies to be had throughout the day in the nooks and crannies of the ungroomed trails.
