Date(s) Skied: February 24, 2007

Resort or Ski Area: Pico

Conditions: Sunny; temps between 20 - 30 F; slight wind picking up in the afternoon; Powder, Packed Powder, Hardpack and ice in some areas

Trip Report: It was so sunny today at Pico, it looked like a spring day. Bluebird conditions the whole time I skied. It was a late start though and I got to the mountain at around noon.

Started off on the Pico Triple Chair. B Slope was closed due to race training so I took the A Slope Cutoff to A Slope. Bumped up all the way. Some thin spots though with grass and rocks poking through.

Next few runs were off the Quad. Expressway was groomed well and a nice run. Almost no one on the slopes and that was great.

Took advantage of the lunch hour and hit the Outpost double chair. Trailboss was right, the conditions here were great. Did two runs down Bronco. The bumps varied from baby bumps to big real bumps. Struggled to get down but practice makes perfect and it was a great trail to get some practice runs in.

Spent the rest of the afternoon on runs off the Summit Quad. Upper Pike was bumped on the sides but the middle was flat like a groomer went down it or it had been scraped off. The wind was really hitting it and I decided to ski this trail early since it would get icy in the afternoon. Summit Glades was still fluffy in some parts. The bumps are growing here but some thin areas are showing too just before the trail forks into East and West.

Trail of the day was Ka. Upper Ka was scraped off and windblown up top but the middle portions were holding up well. Tried to get some training in the woods in Birch Woods. Lots of skiers have been in there but there's still a lot of powder to be had. Last run was down 49er. Little snowmonster said it was getting icy early in the afternoon and with late afternoon conditions setting in, ice skiing skills were necessary.

All in all, it was a great bluebird day at Pico. Picture perfect scenery -- except that we forgot the camera again! Not crowded at all even when everyone came back from lunch, it wasn't a madhouse. Nice laid-back vibe. I'm going to miss this place when the AllForOne Pass expires.

Glad to hear you had a great day. Sounds like similar conditions to what I had. No Sidewinder or Doozie??

Oh well...no Outpost I guess. Did you at least hit Summit Glades or Birch Glades? That is old school Pico!

I did hit Summit Glades and Birch Glades. Did Summit once and went through East Summit Glades. Bumped up like crazy so that was good bump practice. Birch Glades were good too. Got li'l snowmonster to do it too and she had fun. Thanks for the recommendations. We'll be off to Sunday River this Saturday (probably).
