KILLINGTON, Vermont -- Pico Mountain announces today the opening day for the 2008/09 ski and snowboard season will be Saturday, December 20.

The United Way Pico Card Fundraiser, originally scheduled for December 12-14, will now take place December 20-21. Pico Mountain will offer guests a free Pico Card to those that donate $10 or more to the United Way of Rutland County on opening weekend. The Pico Card, which sells for $20 plus tax, offers saving of $10 per day off window ticket rates every day of the season. Donations will be accepted at the Pico Mountain ticket office throughout the weekend.

"The historical low use of Pico Mountain during mid-December and current economic conditions have driven this decision," said Chris Nyberg, president and general manager of Killington/Pico Ski Resort Partners LLC. "Our goal is to continue to move Pico forward in a financially responsible manner and provide our guests with the best possible skiing and snowboarding experience throughout the season."

Pico Mountain season passes will be valid for skiing and riding at Killington December 12-19. Continued snowmaking and additional natural snowfall should provide for outstanding opening day conditions on Saturday, December 20.
