My wife Just booked us an over night at Pico. It's a Valentines gift for me. (I think I better go out and get some jewelry, these flowers and chocolates just aren't going to make it)Anyway, I've never been there, but I've heard these romours of it being Killingtons poor relation, and not getting the attention that it needs. Anybody been there recently( the last trip report I saw was a while ago). How are the conditions, and what trails would be good for a non-aggressive intermediate (wife).

You're one lucky guy! Take it from a local, Pico is one of Vermont's little known treasures. When Killington is swarming with too many people with too much money and not enough skiing skills, Pico is where we go for the real deal. If my husband knew I was giving up this info, he'd be pretty mad. Most locals want to keep it for themselves. But I say if you're willing to give it a try, you deserve to have one of your best skiing days ever. Go and have a ton of fun!

P.S. I don't know the names of the trails, I never look, but they have great trail maps in the lodge. :)

I was at Pico last weekend, and I would advise you to go to Killington.

Nothing against Pico, but I think all remaining snowmaking efforts will be focused on Killington for the rest of the year. I was there on Saturday and Sunday and I didn't see one snowmaker running.

Also, they have very limited terrain open. The entire skier's left side of the mountain (the best part - with the best glades & steeps) is closed and there are only a couple options from the summit - none of which are appealing. The bottom was in good shape, but there were a lot of people who seemed to figure that out the same time I did.

Unless Pico gets some natural to beef up its trail count, I'd favor Killington for the rest of the year

Wanna trade?

Ther are many things I could say here, but I have learned not to leave any form of documentation behind. I want to stay around at least long enought to make this trip.

Should be fun

love PICO...skied Killington on Sunday (icy) as Pico had some big races going on.....there is something about Killington I just dont like...but PICO is classic New England Skiing and the Inn at Long Trail is across the street, best deal in town, great Irish bar, food etc (rooms are so so, but not spending alot of time in it anyway) the Nachos are the best this side of the Mississippi.....love the INN AND PICO

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Killington on Sunday SKIQUATTRO but glad you liked Pico. What is it about Killington that you do not like? Where did you ski while you were there? From the reports on www,killingtonzone.com it sounded like it was a pretty good weekend if you stuck to the trails where snowmaking was going on.

I like to ski Pico when it has enough coverage but I can only last for one day there and then I get bored. Killington gives me more variety of terrain. I may go to Pico during the holiday week if some snow comes through.

I skied at pico practically every day in 88/89. Havent been back since. The majority of the mountain is perfect for intermediate skiers. There is stuff off the outpost chair and the quad that goes off to the right of the main summit. forget its name. The summit itself i think has one blue from the top but in reality K.A., summit glades and i think sunset 71 can all be handled by a competent intermediate skier. The only hairy stuff i remember is Upper Giant killer and A slope which is off by itself but both of these were rarely open.

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot to mention that the best skiing at Pico is off the marked trails ;)
