Places to BC ski in CT?

I have tomorrow off and would like to do a little BC skiing somewhere close by. I know we didn't have much of a base before the snow over the weekend, so I want to be careful - not interested it ripping my skis up too much. I saw some guys over at BR did some skiing at Case on Saturday - I imagine they stuck to the fireroads, which is fine, but not very steep.

I've done some at Shenipsit forest and will head there if I can't find someplace better. There are some good hills there, maybe I'll do some exploring as I imagine you could do some good tree skiing off the top of the mountain (maybe).

Probably the best place I've ever skiied in CT is from the Comstock Bridge up to Day Pond and back in Colchester - there are some really great runs there. Unfortunately that area of the state doesn't often get enough snow to cover the rocks.

I was thinking there might be something worthwhile up at Bigelow Hollow - there's some mighty hills up there and the snow definitely falls in that area.

Any other ideas?

If, you a familiar with Peoples State Forest there is some good skiing in there.
Also, Haystack Mountain in Norfork and American legion state forest. You have to watch out for snowmobiles in Peoples. We normally walk up the snowmobile packed snow and ski down thru the woods.

x2 on people's state forest. There are a couple of old ski trails in there....I remember one having decent pitch. I've also hiked and skied Ragged Mountain. Decent pitch and open trees.

I went out to Bigelow this morning with my wife. Conditions were just about perfect with 15" of light powder everywhere. We mainly stayed on the fireroads out to the shelter on Breakneck, with a side trip up one of the steeper roads. I ventured off the roads a bit, to hit some steep chutes, but the snow was too light to keep the rocks covered. With a bit more substance to the snow there are some really nice runs possible out there. I will be back. The roads were really nice and the scenery can't be beat out there.

X3 on peoples......i spent a lot of time there last winter. lots of fun. the snow sticks around up there too.

the undermountain trail to the AT in salisbury is something ive always thought of skiing. i just havent gotten around to it yet.

another place though it would be illegal is at the northern tip of barkhampstead reservoir. if your driving route 20 towards granby from route 8 and you are on the western side of the res. you can look across the res. and see a very spacious steep slope that goes down the other side. park at the top ski down hike/skin up. if that is too confusing check out the northern end of the res. on googlemaps
