Sunday River and Sugarloaf are both great places to ski. Also, Shawnee Peak is a great midsize mountain with good conditions all season, and also night skiing. We have a lot of fun there, but I am probably biased because it is my home mountain.

You should note that a lot of the mountains that are still open have cut back or suspended their ski school operations due to the end of the season rapidly approaching. So call ahead if you want leasons...

Black Mt has recently been purchased by the Libra Foundation who has made some great upgrades. The Libra Foundation is a a non-profit started by the gal who founded the Maine State Bank and is a legend around these parts. Sorry...haven't skied there myself but friends who have say it is a nice mid sized area.

Shawnee Peak is another wonderful mid-size area that I have skied several times. Unfortunately they are both closed for the season.

Trade in the ski's, if you own some and take up snowboarding. You will never regret it!!!!

If you're going to be in that neck of the woods, I'd say hit Sunday River. Minutes from the NH border and right off of Route 2. Great late season skiing to be had there: www.sundayriver.com

Read my trip report as well in this forum.

I skied Black Mnt of Maine on February 6th of this year and it is a nice place to visit, but the trails from the summit are a bit steep for a begginer skier. They do have a learning area, but the trails are fairly short. If you are comfortable skiing on blue trails, then I would advise skiing there next season, as they are closed for the year as of April 3rd.

The area features a brand new triple chairlift to the summit (installed in 2004) and a new base lodge. Lift tickets and lessons are DIRT cheap, as the ski area is run by a non for profit organization.
