Going to be up that way this weekend. Got a camp site up there for two days, Friday into Sunday. Have another two days off work and was thinking of heading over to the Whites, but also was wondering if there is any fun stuff in the Poland Springs area?

Not much going on in Poland Spring's Maine. Not a golfer, but hear there is a nice course at the Poland Spring Inn. There is Range Pond State Park with a decent beach and some nature trails, but nothing to write home about. Portland is only 45 minutes away though, and Grafton Notch State Park is an hour North on 26 with great hiking, swimming holes, etc. It is right down the road from Sunday River and they have Summer activities as well. What are you looking to do and how far from Poland Springs do you want to travel?

Visit the water factory? :dontknow:

I heard somewhere it's just a rusty faucet, serious. riverskier, the hiking I will look into. I'm not just looking Poland Spring, that just happens to be where we are camping, anywhere in the vicinity tow spend two days or south would be cool. The Whites are a big consideration, love em, but want to keep my options open.

It's not far from the ocean. You can probably make a day trip out of it. I'm a water kind of guy, so in the summer I'd like to be near that. Just looking at the map you have Sebago Lake about 5 miles away. No clue what their is to do there, but that's where I would look.

Old Portland (Old Port?) down by the water is really nice. Take a ferry ride over to the island (Peaks?). It's a nice time and great scenery. Good bars too. Check it out.

Yeah, considered a camp site near Sebago, looks nice, but not sure what there is to do. With regards to ocean, checked out waters in Maine once. It was southern Maine, in August, pulled up by a nice beach, not many folks in the water and took a stroll. Got by the water, took my shoes off and went in, it was cold. Figured no problem, I'll stay in it and my feet will get used to it, nope, never happened. Freaking water is cold!

Yeah I went to York last year in the summer and the water is friggen cold. I was just in South Carolina and the water there is so warm, you can just walk in. Definitely one of the downsides to New England beaches.

Anyway, same thing. I never ended up going in the ocean. Just too damn cold. Unless you have a wetsuit :)

depends on wind direction. If winds blowing east out to sea, the water can get to 68-70 south of Portland this time of year. If it's blowing inland it can be 10 degrees cooler.

It's too bad. IMO the two nicest beaches in New England are Popham and Reid Beaches up near Bath.

Not a ton to do by Poland Springs. Sebago area is a better bet IMO. State Park there is fairly nice for lounging by the water for the day. The sandbar is pretty cool to walk out on. Shawnee Peak just up the road for hiking.

Yeah, the furthest north I've gone swimming is Cape Cod, and even there you have to hit it at the right time.

Good to know, may hit that for a day and then work our way down to South Portland as JJ mentioned. As stated, at first I considered the White, and I do love them, but since I'll be in Maine, figured maybe check it out a bit. Thanks.
